What's the diff between the "Google Edition" (I assume that's the same as GTe) and any other version of the HTC One? For instance if I got one on Verizon network (best in my area) would it be the same thing? Thanks..........as always.

Google Edition is the GPE (Google Play Editition), not GTE :p
The difference is the software. GPE One has Stock Android while the "Other" version has HTC's custom skin a.k.a. Sense, on top of Android. Most of us here prefer the Vanilla Android feel but it's up to you as to which one you prefer.
Unfortunately, the Google Play Edition of the phone is only for GSM networks (T-Mobile and AT&T) so you can't use it on Verizon's network. :(

Google play edition was launched by google with their own launcher i.e the vanilla roms..
It does not have any bloatware like your verizon htc one has .

Normal htc one can be converted to GPE by
1. S-off
2. Root + twrp
3. Installing a GPE rom
