Ok I know my phone is rooted but when Im is shell I can't get SU privileges. I can grant them on the phone to apps.
Have you opened the Superser app in your app drawer and looked to see if you had denied superuser permissions in the past to adb shell, possibly by mistake? But not having SU in my Shell is stopping this. I have searched the forums and google for any one who could have also had this issue to see how they resolved it but to no avail :-(
Do you have:
1. The proper drivers for the phone, if you are using Windows?
2. Android SDK and platform tools installed?
3. USB debugging enabled on the phone?

You could install xonia via terminal emulator. I did it for a guy at work computer free
