Sudden Battery Drain

Hey Everyone,

Looked thru the threads and didn't find anything like the issue I am experiencing. I understand the battery on these devices will go down fast, especially with a heavy user like myself and I like to think I am familiar with the Android devices, went thru several devices looking for the right on for me and found it with the Rezound after dismissing the Bionic and Nexus, but, since the 14th my battery drains dramatically whether its being used or not! No changes were made to the phone and prior to the 14th, there were no battery issues what-so-ever.

It has the stock OS, not many 3rd party apps installed or used (just Facebook, battery bar, SMS backup and a memory/history cleaner) nothing is running at all times expect those pre installed apps that start up on their own...i did have the history cleaner kick in every time the phone locked, and the SMS backup kick in every few minutes but stopped both after seeing my battery go from about 90% to 5% in 4 hours without being used, I received a few text messages and emails in those 4 hours but that's it, I didn't even acknowledge them until the battery was almost dead.Turn off those scheduled task and it didnt make a difference. I performed a factory reset this morning and did no manipulation or custom settings to the device, the phone was at about 25% when I called Verizon, after about a 10 minute call, it was down to 13%.

I cannot think of what it can be, today is the last day I can return it for a different device, after today I will be stuck with replacing the Rezound with used, previously returned Rezounds from Verizon. Needless to say the phone and/or battery is the issue, but I am running out of options. Been on the Thunderbolt (battery drains too quickly and cannot keep a data signal) Charge (data connectivity issues) Bionic (just a terrible phone overall) RAZR (battery drain and just an awkward phone) Nexus (VERY weak antenna) This phone was the first 4G phone that could actually keep a data connection and didnt restart all the time with a decent battery, but now there is this issue.

Wondering if anyone is experiencing the same issue and if switching out the battery fixed it. If its a phone issue and not a battery issue, then I would lean towards getting out of the Rezound.

Menu key > Settings > Wireless and Networks > Wifi Settings > Menu key > Advanced

Make sure "Best Wi-Fi Performance" isn't toggled.

I toggled that once to do a speed test and see what kind of difference it made on my home network (about 1mbps) and accidentally left it on afterward. That REALLY drains the battery, my time went from 13 hours of use to about 6 with that on.

Thanks! I checked it and it was unchecked (wasnt aware of that setting) but I noticed the "Notify Me" was checked (guess that is a default setting after resetting the phone) so I turned that off. I am thinking there is something wrong with the phone, plugged it up to charge and it went from 13% to 53% in about an hour, took it off, checked FB and it went down to 50% after a few minutes, restarted the phone and the battery was at 55%? I use the 'battery bar' app to determine the percentage, have used it for every Android device Ive ever had and it has always been right on point...

Hmmm I wonder if you're actually getting an accurate reading. Have you run the phone until it shuts off on it's own? What does the stock battery reading say?

I personally use the "Battery Left" app widget, and it sometimes does not display an accurate reading. Often times when Battery Left says I've got 50% battery life my system reading states ~60% left.

It could be the app...I checked the Battery use thru the stock setting on Saturday before it died and it said 60%+ was the display despite it hardly being used from when I took it off the charger about 4 hours prior to that. The only modification I made to the phone, now that I think back, was I started using the Screen Lock on Friday the 13th (using the pin) but nothing else.

It seems to be working a little better now that I reset it, but still not as well as before. In my last reply it was at 55%, Ive been unlocking the phone every few minutes to check the percentage and checked FB and its down to 42%...less than an hour it dropped 13% with little use.

I am about to go into a 90 minute meeting, it is currently at 42%. I will leave it as is and see what the percentage is. Thanks for your feedback, Ill let you know the percentage afterwards.

If you open FB once it leaves it open even if you close it.. In order for that program to stop running you have to force close it. I actually refuse to start it now cause it has in the past easten my battery where i was sitting at 57 and the next thing i know my phone is dead.

I came back after leaving my phone alone and after returning about 70 minutes later, it was dead (left at 42%). I went to a nearby Verizon store and they tested the battery, they said the battery tested bad so they replaced it. They threw the new one in at 70%, about 30 minutes later after only checking the settings, it was down to 51%. Nothing is running except the apps you cannot kill. I will go ahead and uninstall the 'battery bar' app and see if that helps. Such a bummer...this is the FIRST 4G phone Ive had that did not restart all time, drop signal all the time and had a decent battery

Try the widget "Battery Left"

It judges your battery life by monitoring usage, takes a full charge to empty cycle to calibrate it properly.

I'm in this battery drain thing, too. I've only had my phone about 3 weeks and it was doing better than my TBolt and then WHAM -- WORSE than the Thunderbolt!!! I followed the instructions given above

Menu key > Settings > Wireless and Networks > Wifi Settings > Menu key > Advanced
Wi-Fi Sleep Policy defaulted to Never
Best Wi_Fi performance is unchecked
Never auto turn on Wi-Fi is unchecked

Notify me is unchecked

Then there's what I think is a new thing but not sure called Verizon Location Agent. I don't recall seeing that until recently.

I've checked the "what's using the battery" and there's no consistency to any one thing. Sometimes is the display, other times phone calls (and I don't make nor get many calls at all) or could be other things. I take it to work and leave it on the desk after just unplugging it from a full charge and the battery is sucked dry into the red zone and twice even totally dead in a few hours on what's none to very little use. This damn phone is about living on my charger! I've got to charge it 3-5x a day!

After I plug it in and it charges up I've had to change the clock time several times. It hops over to Eastern time and I'm on Central.

I can't be absolutely sure but this new bad battery crap seems to have begun after a software upgrade that I did earlier this week.

This is REALLY making me PO'd because if the battery is going to be this bad, I may as well have kept my TBolt and saved $200! I can honestly say the battery life on my TBolt was a helluva lot better than this.

Any ideas?

This is what's causing your problems. The Rezound handled battery life like a champ until VLA was installed. Here's my supporting evidence, deb.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're un-rooted and can't freeze or uninstall it. Just head over to the Market and download the update for Verizon Location Agent. It will come back saying that it's incompatible with your phone, and then force close and stay that way.

100% proof Big Red is being run by a bunch of McGoos. This has to be a major contender for biggest blunder Verizon has made, yet. If this thing was installed on my phone, I'd be going apesh*# about now. First, they make an uneeded OTA, throw in an obviously flawed, performance killing app., without acknowledging it in a changelog. Then sit back, prop their feet up and laugh at the trouble it has caused, w/ no acknowledgement. Way to go, VZW. It's interesting, Verizon gets awarded the title of "best customer service", yet they are often dealing w/ issues they created for their customers. Only is a back asswards world, could they deserve that praise.

The RAZR OTA had VCast Music bundled in it, this is our very own special bloatware version of hell they've sent us. They've gotten very brazen with the bloatware and it's becoming more of a problem than it ever was. Again, I thank all devs that give us alternatives to dealing with the funnel of garbage coming from Verizon. I can't wait for the day that legislation makes them nothing more than a dumb pipe.
They should be treated like an ISP, meaning that I give them $50, and they allow access to my damn internet. That's it. Take your crap apps and shove them right back into the hole that produced them.

Correct, un-rooted and it won't uninstall. I tried your suggestion. Instead of telling me it was not compatible, it installed (updated) the darn thing. So I uninstalled the update What do I do now?

Did you open it after you did the update? I had to open it after the update and then it said incompatible with my device.

Sorry for your troubles, Verizon was an idiot for installing busted bloat ware, just like in the early days of the thunderbolt, it had blockbuster application which would drain the battery.

I also had the thunderbolt before and upgraded to the rezound for $50 and couldn't be happier. I get better battery life on my Rezound, and better signal.

Have you tried to pull sim and wait for 5 minutes?

Did you open it after you did the update? I had to open it after the update and then it said incompatible with my device.

I just installed the update again and opened it and it does say it's incompatible but how do I make it do a force close from that open screen?
