Sudden Battery Power Drop?

First, I love this phone.

Last night, the phone stopped responding after I had read a few pages on the NY Times website, which I thought was strange. Its the first time that had happened. The display would not respond, and then the Droid eye started staring back at me after a couple of minutes. It then went right back to normal, so I don't think it was a re-boot, per se.

This morning, I checked email as I always do - nothing special. My usage was lighter than normal even and after just under 4 hours since disconnected from the charger, I got a battery low warning screen. Since I'm at work, I plugged my Droid into the USB and after just a few seconds, the phone is showing 60% charge.

Has anyone else seen this sort of weirdness?

FYI: Battery Use:
Display: 33% (Display has been on lowest backlight setting)
Cell Standy: 27%
Phone Idle: 16%
Voice Calls: 7%
Android System: 6%
Email: 4%
Gmail: 4%
Android OS: 3%
Android Core Apps: 2%

Try downloading an app called "spare parts" from the app market. It gives a more in-depth overview of battery usage, and might be able to help you see if there's a specific app that's really draining your battery.

If there isn't a certain app that's the problem, I'm guessing there's something wrong with the device, in which case taking it into your local VZW store should help.

Mine did something similar this morning. I turn it on Airplane mode when I go into work everyday so it wont kill my battery. Well at lunch, I pull it out of my pocket and its flashing at me saying I only have 5% battery left, im like WTF?? So I turn it off then back on, and bam battery is back at 100%, very weird.

that happened to me kinda last week...I say kinda because it wasn't exact. I was out at dinner playing games and it flashed "15% battery left" and I sent 2 messages and 5 minutes later it was dead. Now I dunno about you but 15% battery doesn't equate to 5 minutes, should be like an hour or more on standby

Something similar happened to me. I was in a meeting first thing this morning so I had a full charge. I noticed I lost my 3G signal and only had 1x, which can happen in my building in certain places. A bit later the LED was flashing red and I had a message to recharge the battery, which was almost gone.

I put the Droid on my charger and it immediately went to 60%. Within 30 minutes it was 70% and then it suddenly jumped to 100%. Now, 5 hours later, it's still acting normally and holding a charge. It had me spooked because I'm flying in a couple of days and I could just image my phone dying over the holidays.

Ok, I'm past my 30 days since purchase. Today I used phone as usual, put it in my pocket and pulled it out to find a red flashing light and a message telling me to recharge. This is the first time this has happened. I checked apps running and there was android keyboard and weather. I charged and got back to 70% in 15 minutes. Usually takes an hour or more to reach a full charge. Does anyone know why this is happening? Could be a real inconvenience if I am somewhere and expect to be able to use my phone..
