So I've been having some issues with the phone getting hot, under certain instances. Happens when I'm charging the phone and doing something that puts just a little strain on the phone (browsing internet, youtube, google music etc..). Also when this starts to happen, the battery drains a ridiculous pace, even with the charger plugged in. It's happened on multiple chargers, different battery levels and with different power modes. Now there has been some random posts about phones getting hot, and I'm wondering more what is causing it. My guess is the battery is what is heating up for some reason, and after that, I gotta shut the screen off and put it down until it cools down. After it cools down, then it will finally start to charge again.

The first couple times this happened I would leave it on the charger with the screen on, and that would drain the battery even. There are no apps that are just causing problems, I've checked the app usage screen, deleted suspect ones, and even factory reset the phone, nothing has helped.

Lastly, anybody have advise for when I go into the store. I'm new to Verizon, puchased the phone from an electronics store, and am just out of the 14 day return window. I've heard about them extending the return window to 30 days, but the contract I signed said 14. It for sure is a defect and wonder if just a new battery may fix the issue?

It could be the radio going out of whack, it happened to me a lot in the early days of the tb. With regards to returns, it depends on whrere you bought it, i can return my phone within 90 days because i bought it at Costco when it was $50. But every store can set their own policy.

One thing you can try is to force your phone into 3g and see if you still have the problem.

Tried 3g tonight, no dice. I took the cover off tonight after I watched about 5 minutes of HBO Go.... that's all it took and the battery was already super hot. I also tried without charging, and it gets pretty warm but not nearly as fast, and my battery drains at a normal pace.

Thanks kuro, I looked for your post, but was looking for the wrong subject. I took mine in, shop I got it from has a 30 day return policy for defects it seems. New one has actual red buttons as well, my old phone had questionable red ones. Not the hot pink ones like the verizon store display had, but after seeing actual red buttons, I was even happier I got a new phone.

I dunno if there's a bad batch of phones, batteries or just bad os loads but there was definitely something wrong with my first one. When I took it back all I took in was the phone. So it wasn't the charger.

Hitting 120F just charging with the phone off had me thinking the battery. The guy asked if I could replicate it. 5 min of playing with it he said it felt warm. Then I pulled up the exact temp and that stopped a lot of questions (104F just browsing the HTC website)

+1 for me. I had the same problem. Returned it and so far (knock on wood) the 2nd one has been fine.

It sounds like a fake phone had bad red not like your new phone.Whrere did you get it???:)

I have yet to use a touchscreen phone that does not get hot being used while charging. It taxes the heck out of the chipset if it's used while charging. It's the downfall of having no ventilation internally. If I feel it get hot whiile using it at home I just turn on a little fan pointed at the back for a.few to cool it down. My DX used to hit 120 on a regular basis when streaming video online. Let a fan blow on the battery cover til it went back to the low 90s after a few mins. It's just an inherent flaw of having all that internal tech. in such a small area.

I'm in Omaha, both came new and old came from Nebraska Funiture Mart.

As far as the new one and temp goes, this one is normal. I watched 2 hours of HD youtube streaming over wifi trying to drain the 25% left of the extended battery. Didn't get but barely warm.

Please reread what I said: the phone hit 120F while OFF. I had drained the battery dry, plugged it in to charge (without turning it back on) and woke up to find a 60% charge after 6 1/2 hrs and a high temp when I turned it back on. When I checked actual temp on System Panel it was 120F

Now my new Rezound barely hit 100f charging in the car while using slacker and navigation for 45 minutes.

No offense but I wasn't responding to your post, mine was in light of the OP. Didn't even read yours til.a.few mins. ago. Glad to hear the swap out worked out for you. That would be scary to turn a phone on a see a temp like that after being off for that amount of time.
