Ok... I'm trying to root my note i717. No idea what I'm doing, but I'm doing it anyway. I'm on Odin and have inserted the .tar file. I got the phone to the downloading screen and started Odin but it fails at recovery.img (80-90% through). No clue what I'm doing so its hard to troubleshoot. Everything I read is too vague. I don't wanna brick my note but I'm too stubborn to throw in the towel so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Super Noob at rooting etc.

Well that helped me get through Odin but i can't get it to boot open recovery. I followed his instructions but it goes to the samsung screen and stays off.

Step 11 is hold both volume buttons. Are you doing that?

Perhaps flashing either TWRP or CWM in Odin. The only not her thing I can think of.
