Support Group for those switching from WebOS (palm pre) to Nexus S 4g

Also hoping JuiceDefender works as well as others are saying. Just installed it, we will see. I';m gonna run through a full day with no charge tomorrow. I actually think it will help me a lot since my office is located in a low signal area and that seems to drain my battery a lot.

I can tell you that nothing will help if you are in a low signal area, as my office is in a hole that causes issues. No way I can have a Sprint phone here without charging it all through the day. I kept a touchstone here to charge the Pre every day, and I have to charge my Nexus as well. Of course, I am streaming music all day, so I'm draining it.

I feel your pain.... 4 free apps made all the difference to me coming from 15 years of Palm and the Pre- to this phone....

K9 - email
Handcent - texting
GoContacts - contact manager
NoLED - notifications

those 4 babies totally changed my attitude of Android and Nexus.... try them and let me know if you feel as transformed as I did.... :-)

I have to say this was the post I was looking for. Job well done. I am downloading all of these apps as I type this.

This thread was the sole reason why I joined these forums. It really is a support group.

I'm still a bit overwhelmed by my Nexus S 4G, I havent touched the surface let alone scratch it yet. I keep wanting to do things on my Pre eventho my Nexus is already activated.

How long did it take some of you to fully embrace and become comfortable with the Nexus S?

i'm a day one (former) pre owner - and surprisingly to me it didn't take long to adjust... within a few days really. i continue to tweak however!

Nexus Battery vs PRE

The one thing I will say negative about the Nexus is that the battery life reminds me of my PRE- ..... I need to constantly be charging it.... I live in the heart of Chicago, don't turn on 4G (rarely works anyways), only have 1 pop email, and no games at all. It is quite disappointing to say the least - I am hoping I just got a lemon because it really is pathetic.... I can get maybe 4-5 hours of real world use out of it before it starts getting below 20-30% charge level. I use "battery monitor widget" that shows the details but there doesn't seem to be anything other than the display and voice calls sucking the juice up. If I had not just spent 2 years with the same issue on the PRE, I would really be pissed, but now it just seems "normal"..... :-(

Something is wrong. I live in chicago and I'm easily getting 17 to 30 hrs of battery life. Heavy on Twitter and text messaging. When u are checking your battery app what is eating up the battery the most? Do u leave GPS on.

A day. Lol I still play games on my pre and us it for music until I get my Google music invite.

I have been leaving the "Use GPS Satellites" box checked. I will try a few days unchecked and see if it makes a difference.... my battery usage monitor just shows display and voice calls eating up 90% of my juice. My next step is to go visit my sprint store and see if I can get a replacement....

It definitely sounds like something is wrong....take the phone in and get it checked out

One More Major Life Changer App

Actually I forgot to list one more app that made the WebOS conversion relatively painless... LauncherPro - it totally changes the whole look and feel of your home screens and how you manage apps / widgets / everything. I didnt think of it before because it just seems part of Android now in my mind.... I cant imagine this phone without it... just be prepared to spend some serious time learning it - it seems to have a bottomless pit of tweaks / settings to allow the ultimate in customizations....

The first thing my husband (an Evo owner) did on my phone was put LauncherPro (the second was swype). Love how it reminds me of my Pre-. I even transferred my ringtones from my Pre- over to my Nexus.. so phone call and text alerts still sound the same :)

The only thing I don't like about both phones is that while I'm on a call with the Nexus I seem to always be hitting the mute button with my jaw, whereas with my Pre- I would always hit the end button. I never figured out how to avoid that with the Pre-, any tips on how to avoid muting my calls with the Nexus? Is there something in the settings I should be doing? (I did try a search both here and on google and came up with nothing) TIA

The proximity sensor should prevent that from happening.

I hope I don't have a glitchy phone. Unlike stupid assumptions made, I do hold my phone where my face is on or very very close to the phone physically, I know the sensor will detect and basically shut down the screen - so a button doesn't get pressed accidently with your face, but there have been times when the mute button has been pressed while on a call. It does get very annoying (even more so when trying to get advice and instead receiving unnecessary comments)

Nope sorry! Hope you made yourself feel better by being oh, so subtle....

I think, much like your proximity sensor, your humor sensor is malfunctioning.

Also, are you using any sort of case or screen protector? That could potentially cause issues with the proximity sensor.

Maybe you should also ask your husband if he can decipher humor.

I have no trouble deciphering humor... it's the language and brotherhood of nincompoops that I can't comprehend. Apparently, I need to dumb myself down to understand juvenile jokes.
