Support Group for those switching from WebOS (palm pre) to Nexus S 4g

Battery is probably the biggest grip I have with my pre currently, aside from speed.

With both phones the battery life will be much better then our pre's. The Nexus uses ondemand scaling which helps keep battery use to a minimum (pre owners should be familiar with this process by using govnah) and the evo 3d only uses its other core when under demand. This process is being done by the samsung galaxy s II which as everyone knows has been a benchmark god.

Just called my Sprint store. They are also closed this sunday due to mothers day. What a shame. I was ready to plunk down my cash and pick it up.

And apparently the nerds at Best Buy mobile have no clue what is going on.

OK I will play. I am leaving HP Pre (Sprint Launch Device, oh wait, my 4th refurb actually) and heading over to Nexus S. I am so ready to jump I can't even consider waiting for the EVO 3D.

I will miss the familiar (WebOS) but will embrace the new (Android) bolstered by the stock Android experience. Lucky for me my brother has had a Nexus One since it launched and loves it, so I will be able to hit him up if I run into any roadblocks, but with the numerous guides out there and a few YouTube vids I think I am fairly certain I will love Android.

I had a brief fling with a HTC Arrive (WP7) but it just didn't work out.

I will miss cards and...well, really, not much else.

Between the store at Westlake Center and the one on 6th Ave, I wasn't too worried. But good to have confirmation that at least one will be open :)

for those that will miss the card view there is an app called iching thumb that is very similar to card view on the pre. as well as wave launcher for quick app access. other apps that are similar are virtual task switcher and perfect task switcher. I like iching thumb the best but it doesnt hurt to have options. Here are the links below:

As a former palm pre owner (Sprint), I can assure anyone who's thinking of, or had already make the switch to Android... that after getting familiar with the Android OS, you won't even remember what you missed about Webos.

Android is a very customizable and an intuitive operating system. To explain all about what the Android System is all about -- tap on the link in my signature.

I can attest to this. Jumped over to the Epic a little over a week ago. Radio Shack had a smokin' deal, $50 upgrade, couldn't pass it up. Wasn't a launch day Pre owner, but had it for about a year and a half. I thought I would miss the cards, gestures, etc. But I really don't. I used to always try to back swipe on other people's Android phones. I was a little concerned about the learning curve. But once I got my own, the impulse disappeared completely. It was a little strange. Rooting was pretty easy. Flashing ROMs is so much fun, there are so many to experiment with. There's so much dev support out there. It would be hard to go back to webOS, even with next gen hardware. And the app catalog is fantastic. If you frequent Amazon, their app store is great too.

I've been a day 1 owner. I have 1 replacement. my brother has a day 1 pre still, original.

I hate to say it, but I think I'm moving to android. I will miss synergy and just type very much, as well as cards. I want webOS to succeed, but I'm tired of waiting. this HP reboot has dragged on too long now. I may rejoin later...

But sorry Nexus S owners, I'm also holding out to see where the EVO 3D lands ;) Though, if it launches for $250, I'll be less inclined to get it.

i am also a launch day pre- owner, moving to the Nexus S 4G on sunday. i think the thing i will miss most is homebrew, and the WebOS internals crew.

Hi - not launch-day with my Pre, but have had it for a year and a half almost. Being a DIY computer geek, of course before I even bought the thing I was looking at the homebrewing community and incredibly easy methods of tweaking a Pre to my heart's content.

I will miss this thing, even with the shoddy build quality, tiny screen and mini keyboard. It has been a beast aside from the Stuck-in-Headset mode I had to deal with a couple of times.

I've got some Android experience, as my fianc?e has a G1 and I took it upon myself to root it and throw various Cyanogen mods on there to try to help her experience be not so... ****ty (Android has come a LONG way since the G1!!!). Now that she's getting off that contract and joining mine on Sprint, she wanted to look at the phones available.

We are both hardware keyboard lovers, and we went down to the Sprint store and played with the EVO Shift - thinking that was the route we'd take.

Instead, we fell in love with the Epic 4G now that it's got Froyo, and now I'm all set to put Syndicate ROM Frozen 1.1.0 on both phones once the taxes come back and we take the plunge!!!

Wheee! Thanks for the helpful links. I've compiled a list of apps I want and mods I want and all that junk, but even here the links to the task switchers and guides are a super bonus.

The only thing you will miss in Android is card view, everything else Android does is superior to WebOS. You also might think you'll miss homebrew, but you won't, because the Android third party development is vastly superior to even what you can get on WebOS.

Trust me, give it a couple weeks or a month, especially after getting into rooting and custom ROMs, and you won't miss WebOS one bit.

^^ What this person say... is 100% the truth. (IMO)

When I first switched over to Android, I must confess I was a little hesitant in giving up on my palm pre and webos. However, that feeling went flying through the window couple days later. I was very surprised on how easily I had adapted to a new phone and its operating system.

This talk about the Nexus S have gotten me curious about this device. Hmm!! (curious)

Yes, thank goodness everything from the Pre will fit this phone (except the cases of course). I got so tired of buying all the phone specific cords for my cell phones and was really happy when they went to mico as a standard.

Hey all,

Another original Sprint Pre- owner coming over to Android. I did try out the EVO 4G for 30 days back in January. I obviously went back to my Pre, but I'm looking very forward to the Nexus S 4G form factor, vanilla Android, and the more and more and more apps available on Android. Only thing I'm really going to miss about webOS is, I suppose, its polish, but mainly the card system and how it works with multitasking. Just can't beat how convenient it is.

I also did hack and overclock my Pre, installing patches and running uberkernal and 500/1 via Govnah. I will have to learn more about "rooting" so I can maximize the experience here, too!

I am certain that we will have a ton of information regarding this phone soon.

Now a owner of the Nexus S from Sprint from the Palm Pre Minus with 2.1.

This phone is blazing. Nothing I can't get used to. No overclock needed.

Anyone have any luck getting Itching Thumb to work properly?

Have tried several times but the 'cards' do not appear.

From itching thumb description right in the market:"Rooted device strongly suggested". I read this as, root your phone and try again if something doesn't work as this app requires certain root privileges.
