So i have had my S7 Edge since launch. I have a Samsung Pro Plus 64GB sd card in there that is practically full.

I was going to upgrade it to a Samsung PRO Select Micro SDXC Memory Card, 128GB.

What is the best way to do this? Can I just:

  • Turn Off S7 Edge
  • Remove 64GB card
  • Insert 64GB card into PC, copy all contents
  • Copy contents of 64GB to the new 128 GB card
  • Insert 128 GB card into S7 Edge
  • Power on S7 Edge

Is that going to work? seems too easy

Yes it's as east as that although I would recommend copy and paste in case the transfer goes awry

+1.

When I install a new SD card, I typically backup the contents of my existing card to my PC, then format the new card in the phone. Then I copy the SD card contents from the backup on my PC to the new card.

Yes, it's a longer process. But I had a problem just once, and having the backup saved my data.

You have to unmount the SD card before removing it.

Thats pretty much what I did, which was ok for data. Keep in mind if you have any apps/settings that look at the SD card, they will probably have to be reinstated when the new one is used.

Worked as stated.

Unmount 64GB SD card in S7

Insert 64GB card into computer

Copy all files to a folder

Insert 128 GB card into PC

Copy files from folder to 128 GB card

Insert 128 GB card back in phone.

And it works like nothing ever happened

I would have formatted the 128gb card in the phone first and then copied stuff to it just to make sure. Sometimes media manager goes a bit haywire indexing stuff from a new card it hasn't seen before.

I don't use SD cards much but I did snag a 64 GB one on Amazon day for like .. $12 or w/e. I will throw it into my Note 7 for movies and stuff to store.

Is the Pro version really necessary? I understand the speed issue, but for storage of music, videos and photos, isn't it a bit of over priced over kill?

I watch a lot of videos on my phone and it makes a huge difference when I'm copying over 50+ gigs of content at once. Also, I was used to use adoptable storage before and it also makes a huge difference there.

I'm trying this process on my S5 and when I transfer from PC to new 128gb card I get error messages that some files are corrupt. I've tried 3 times with no succes.

I finally got the 128gb card to work, kind of. I transfered all the apps I could to the card, the app manager says it's on the card, but storage says it's still on internal storage! WTF? Is this what I get for buying a $15 card on Ebay?
