Swapping battery covers

It's just amazing to me that the LTE version of the phone will be thinner than the thinnest part of my Droid X.

I don't think they'll match up perfectly, seeing as the GSM has a more exaggerated curve on the backside.

If you guys really REALLY want to get the verizon branding on the phone so badly, just paint over it ffs

The display model at the Samsung store has the VZW logo on it. I think it's safe to say, in an otherwise generally unsafe realm of speculation, that it represents the production version.

And there's no telling whether big red will sell the alternate backplate, but chances are reaaaaaalllly really slim. I mean, the only difference would be the substitution of another company's logo for theirs. I mean, if you ran a company, would you do that?

Samsung could, theoretically, sell it on their own. They sell replacement covers for the Charge, and although those ones are same as stock, I'd imagine they could do the same for the Nexus. (and offer ones that say Google on them)

If the GSM battery cover doesn't fit, I highly doubt another version with the Google logo will be produced specifically for the LTE model. There likely isn't enough demand from the public at large to justify the production of it.

If I ran a big company, and saw that a sizable portion of the customer base would buy what probably amounts to a five cent paint change for the same cover as another high margin accessory I would probably do so. That being said, I can't imagine the number of people who would actually shell out ~$10 for a name change on the cover would be high enough to be worth the trouble.

I was only hoping haha, and your right, but VZW probably paid google a pretty penny to get their logo on the back of that phone.

So does anyone know if the GSM and LTE versions of have the same size battery door? I am thinking I want to buy a GSM extra door since I'd much rather carry around something with Google on it than Verizon. Anyone out there know?

Gee, I thought only Apple fanboys were "form over function" people.

It doesn't matter what it looks like. It isn't important that others notice what we're using. It just matters that it's Android inside.

Get over it. Sometimes people want something that is aesthetically pleasing to their tastes. Coming from both Nexus phones, i prefer the Google look. Noone in this thread is threatening to not buy the device based on a battery door. Its just a few people showing preference towards one design over the other.

I won't change the battery cover but I do wish it had Google on the back instead of Verizon. I will have a case on it so it won't matter. IMO the best compromise would have been the Google logo on the back with the LTE symbol below it, with no Verizon.

Isn't the color slightly different? So even if it could be swapped the color won't match

Yeah, I'm not really sure how wanting the Google-branded battery cover is all that different from wanting a case in your favorite color instead of black. Nobody's saying it's a deal breaker or they hate Verizon. I don't care about the battery cover, but I can understand why some people would have a preference, especially in the case of previous Nexus owners who want to maintain some consistency in their phone lineage.

From the photos, I'm not optimistic for you guys :( It's close, but that lip at the bottom looks just different enough to be obnoxious imo.

This will definitely be done on mine. People customize things to make it their own, please don't judge them for being different. i.e I rebadged my Integra Type-R with the OEM JDM emblems. How does my doing so bother you? If it does you got some serious issues. Carry on.

There is nothing wrong with wanting something that looks good to you, this can become a bad thing when it becomes, as you say "form over function" because you are actually limiting functionality to get something to look better. This is absolutely nothing like that, the styling of the case has no bearing on the performance on the phone. Also the op and those that agree with him are talking about investing their own time/energy/money to make their phone look more appealing to them, this does not affect anyone else in any way.

I say, bring on the case mods, why can't people tweak the outside of their phone just as much as they tweak the inside.

I can see your point. However, we're talking about the BACK of the phone. The part of the phone seen by OTHERS. The purpose of making the back of the phone pretty is to impress others. That's moving into Apple territory. Using a phone as a status symbol, that is.

Does anybody, anywhere see the part of the phone with the logo on it in normal use? Except when taking a picture, most people I know hold their phone with the hand on the back, covering the part that would show the logo. Then again, I suppose in landscape mode that is not the case, but when in landscape mode I think most people also hold it at an angle that makes it difficult to see the back.

Anyways I guess all I'm trying to say is that I see it less like a status symbol and more like wearing special underwear. Yeah, someone might see it sometime, but in general it's just fun because you know it's there.
