Swipe fingerprint for notifications usability

Does anyone else use this and have it work reliably? It's very inconsistent for me. I like having it on because of the convenience when using one hand but lately, mostly this month since the Pie update I've found it rarely works when I need it to requiring several attempts often resulting in me just giving up.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else has been seeing this. My fingerprint sensor itself works perfectly fine for unlocking.

Works fine for me. Do you have a case on that has a fairly form-fitting cutout for the fingerprint sensor? If so, maybe that's impeding the scope of your swipe. I find that it works best when I swipe broadly, from the very top of the sensor to the very bottom.

I've noticed it needs to be a slower deliberate motion. going too fast is inconsistent

It normally works very well for me - though I rarely use it. But if my aim isn't great or if my finger is a little sweaty, that will affect things.

No I have a Spigen Slim Armor case that has probably a 45 degree taper 3mm wide all the way around it. I'm probably just not doing it right. I will try a broader swipe.

Keep your fingers on the sensor if it lifts of it doesn't work well.

Yeah sounds like I'm just doing it to quickly and not enough to make it work correctly. I will try to adjust my methods and report back.

It was worth it for a chuckle ;)

Absolutely!

I'm sure when I *do* have a son, my phone addiction will be passed on to the next generation and he too will be able to use fingerprint scanners like the best of them. 🤣

Yeah I think it was just me going to fast with not enough contact. Seems to work better if I make sure I get full contact and swipe the whole thing. I was doing more of a flick with the tip of my finger.

I go too fast sometimes as well, which definitely affects my results!

Being more deliberate, slower, making full contact and while it's better, it still takes multiple tries sometimes. Doesn't matter, just kind of annoying.

I just wish my problem went in that direction. The notification pulldown (P2, not XL) rarely fails - but even getting past the first screen in entering a fingerprint almost never works, and the few times it does, I keep getting the "Fingerprint scanner is dirty" message until it fails (9 or 10 tries). And I've cleaned them with everything I could think of - alcohol, peroxide, wipes. They've sent me two replacements and they both had the same problem. Did I suddenly develop defective fingerprints?

The first one (a replacement, because the original one bricked during its first update) started acting funny, refusing to recognize one of the fingers I had registered, so stupid me deleted them all [I usually register the first 2 fingers on each hand] and tried again. And can't enter a fingerprint on 3 phones so far now. Well, the last return gets to them tomorrow, then they're sending me another one. Another refurb, of course. Probably with a defective scanner. FecEx is going to love me.

Do I hold the record or something? 5th phone coming in less than 7 months?

You might have the record. I am on my third, which I got about six weeks after my initial purchase. Swapped the first one two weeks in because the touch response was horrible. Second one was better but still not right. This one only had issues with touch response if I turned off the active edge/squeeze on oreo it would give me issues. Pie fixed that. Active edge is disabled and it runs just fine.

I did have an issue today where the phone wouldn't unlock several times when I was working outside and I had to enter the pin to unlock it. Now my hands were a little dirty and sweaty but it didn't even vibrate and tell me it couldn't read it like usual when I miss. It's been fine since but there was a couple hours today where I was wondering if I was going to have to get this swapped this week because of the FP going out. Which sucks because I recently spent $50 on a stupid screen protector.

I've noticed the same behavior on my phone - I'll put a registered finger on the sensor and I'll feel a vibration but the phone won't unlock and I also don't see the normal message that the fingerprint wasn't recognized. This has only happened since the Pie update.
