Swipe lock screen with pattern lock only after time limit

I still have not figured out this issue, or maybe this is just how the Samsung configures Android. With my old Bionic, I could have the swipe lock unlock the phone and not require the pattern lock unless it had been 10 minutes since my phone was last unlocked. With the GS3, I have to swipe the screen and then I have to enter the pattern. The timer only controls if I leave the phone unlocked with the screen off, and either way, both screens come up.

Did I make this too confusing? Does anyone have a solution? From what I have read, this only happens on Verizon's GS3. I just installed CleanROM 5.0 and was hoping the JB leaks would change this, but no luck... so now I am hoping it is something I am doing wrong.

I'm not sure if this is something that can be done exactly as you wish but here's what I do and it is similar to what you're looking for.

I have my screen timeout very low but, my phone doesn't actually lock until 5 minutes after the screen turns off or if I manually turn it off using the side button.

I was going to do that, but I want to be able to hit the lock button to turn the screen off. Now that I read it more closely, it does say "Screen will be locked in 5 minutes after the screen automatically turns off". So the problem is the lock button... it actually locks the phone so it seems like there is nothing that can be done.

Correct. Like I stated, it's about as close as I can see to what you're trying to do. Using the button locks it, unless you untick that box that says lock with power key.

That is my only gripe... I would be OK even if there were a timer of a switch to toggle when i want to use the pattern lock.

Oh well......

Hi guys,

I have problem with my note 2 swipe lock.

When I pressed my home button or power button it opens up the lock screen. Normally we are suppose to swipe it before it will go into home screen but today it will just automatic go into home screen after 1 to 2 seconds after i press the home button or power button ( I didn't have to swipe to unlock it).

Any ideas how to fix it? Inside setting I did set it to swipe lock.

Thank you.

Actually, just uncheck the option to "lock phone instantly with power key", and it won't force you to enter your PIN/Password/Pattern until the timeout expires. At the very least I know it works with PIN lock.

Side note, I wanted to keep my phone secure, but was also sick of having to use my PIN to unlock my phone every time, especially when I was at home and wasn't very worried about someone stealing my phone. After some searching online, I figured out how to setup a tasker profile that would set my phone to swipe security only when I was connected to home wifi, but would enable my PIN as soon as my phone got out of my home wifi range. Works pretty well and was easy to set up. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post instructions. Tasker app is required, and most likely root access as well.

I thought about doing what you said, but I like the swipe screen... I always think I am going to pocket dial someone without it.

The app I liked right above your post allows you to set your lock screen according to what wifi you are connect to. It works perfect except the timer starts from the last time you unlocked it instead of when you lock the phone.
