*Switch Your Samsung Infuse Into 2G!!

You can switch your Infuse into 2G, and I don't mean by turning off data packets in the menu as that will do nothing except turn off data. Almost all cell phones have a menu under network settings for turning on 2G. Samsung has opted to leave this menu out of the Infuse. It is simply not there. You can use the method below to achieve the same results though.

1st; Dial *#*#4636#*#*

2nd; Choose GSM.

3rd; Press home button to exit.

You will now be in forced 2G. You will not be able to surf the internet unless on WIFI as it will be painfully slow in page loading at 2G. This should only be used as a last resort to get more signal.

Do not choose anything other than GSM, or you could possibly occur roaming charges from using Verizon or T-Mobile towers. Yes, you read that right you could force the Infuse on other carriers (3G/Hspa+ towers) besides AT&T by choosing one of the many other choices in the 2nd step.

To put the phone back to the way it was just follow the above steps, except replace the 2nd step choice selection with; GSM/WCDMA Auto (PRL).

So what it he benefit of doing this? to save on Data Usage? Save on Battery? To boost signal to make a voice call?

The benefit is a boost to signal strength. A side effect is much longer battery life but at the cost of high speed data. The Infuse will not go into 2G by itself. It will only drop to 3G and then go to no signal. So next time you happen to be in an area that is just out of reach of a tower this will allow you signal to make calls. If you are lucky enough to be surrounded by AT&T towers then you will never need to use this option.

My phone actually goes into 2G or edge by itself. It happens when I have lousy service in the area.

re: surronded by AT$T towers

I drive for a living(all 48) and it is very rare that I dont have signal"everywhere"
High elevation mountain passages are the most common dead zones,Grapevine,Donner,
Tehachapi and the like (some of you will know where these are)AT$T has always been the "best" carrier on the market, though some will argue . . . . . . .
"Those" are not the ones leaving their comfort local zones knocking out 3,200-4,000 miles every week
40-42 weeks a year rolling across the US nation.

The infuse is locked into 3G/4G hspa+, with the so called 4G hspa+ as first choice. When it loses 4G hspa+ signal it will go into 3G. It will not go into 2G unless forced by the above method. If you guys don't believe me then next time you drop 4G to 3G and think your in 2G just go into about phone, status... And You'll see that your stuck on 3G.

It shows up as EDGE under mobile network type.

cool but doesnt help me in painted post, ny. i get 1 bar edge in my house here. except in the morning i may get 3g service. i wish at&t would just bring the 3g service just a little further down the road, like 526yards closer.

Thanks for this post! I added it to my Contacts for emergencies along with your instructions. There are several areas close to me that have hardly any signal. If I were to break down there I'd be SOL. So hopefully switching to 2G / GSM would help me get a bar or two in such a situation.

Thanks again!

Might want to add that you want to click "Phone Information" then click drop down to change to "GSM Only" for some reason mine isn't working though. When I change it to "GSM Only" and hit the home button I'm still on H+

Going back into the menu I notice that it is still on "GSM Only" and goes directly into the "Phone Information" screen. Pressing the "back" button takes me back to the main menu, going back into "Phone Information" it looks like it defaulted back to "GSM/WCDMA Auto (PRL)" Is there something i need to do to "save settings" or "apply" ?

I've got the same exact issue-- ever find a solution?

Other than battery, what's the point.

I played with this and I am trying to put it back and the option I found is "GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL)" not "GSM/WCDMA Auto (PRL)"
