Switched from the Galaxy Note 4, now have Nexus 6, My thoughts

here. it's not confirmed, but this is one article that talked about it. if you read the last paragraph for display and battery, it talks about how the display is affecting the phone.

AnandTech | The Nexus 6 Review

Yeah I remember reading that article... and it's just like anything else.. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... before I sold my Nexus 5 I played some video's and looked at some pictures on the 5 and 6 side by side and I felt the 6 looked way better.... Maybe it was the size or the endorphin's of having the new device and clouding my judgement but my 6 display looks amazing....

I still don't understand the last part about older generation AMOLED and sourcing from Samsung... qHD is fairly new so how old can it really be and Samsung isn't the only AMOLED smart phone MFG.. LG Display was the first to come out with a qHD AMOLED smartphone screen.. are we even certain Motorola sources all their panels from Samsung display? (I honestly couldn't find anything on exactly what MFG panel is in the Nexus 6??)

Samsung does call their panel a "Super" AMOLED vs just AMOLED in the Nexus 6.... but Samsung isn't the only AMOLED MFG... If anything it's just a difference in MFG process and MFG in general vs "Last Gen"

'Super' AMOLED is Samsung's name for their AMOLED displays which are bonded to the digitizer. The Nexus 6 doesn't call it a "Super AMOLED" because they don't use Samsung's naming convention, but its display is bonded to the digitizer all the same.

That's a good point. All QHD screens just came out this year. On a side note, I think QHD is actually the equivalent to 4k, but I understand what you're trying to say.

QHD is 2560x1440. 4k is 3840x2160, No phones have come out with 4k as of yet, and, based on my experience going from a HD (1920x1080) display to a QHD display... the only benefit to a phone with 4k would be bragging rights (unless we start seeing 10"+ phones). With what I see now with the N6, I'd have been happier to have seen it released with a standard HD display, affording it better battery life and even faster operation (the latter of which isn't an issue now, but may be a year or two down the road with more exhausting apps).

Pretty much the same thing going from 1080p to qHD..... It's just bragging rights on paper, the benefit is actually minimal... Heck the original Note was just for bragging rights and as I read one Samsung executive just said "Because we can" when asked about the massive size (at the time)

I know Samsung is reported to be working on a 6 inch 4K screen for the Note 5 next year... but it's still a work in progress... I have no doubts they will have it ready in time for September of next year.... I think LG is working on a 5.5 inch version with well over 700 ppi for the G4 due out in June....

I was being sarcastic. ;) I think it's ridiculous people suggest shutting everything off and making the phone borderline unusable for most just to make it through a day.

I have no problem getting through a day and then some without turning anything off. I understand that everybody's use case is different, but 3-4 hours of SOT and 18 hours off battery should be more than enough for most people.

maybe they mean the technology of the amoled itself, not so much with the resolution of the phone? my guess is Nexus 6 is using same or similar technology as note 3. I'm not an expert in this, so if someone else understand more please correct me.

here's another article that talks about the display. also talks about power efficiency.

I'm not an expert in this

Me either.... I just know I've sat at best buy for 20 minutes comparing a Note 4 to my Nexus 6 and the displays in my humble opinion are freaking neck and neck good.... On paper and looking at all the technical data supplied from all these high tech measuring devices and test...

The Note 4 has the better screen....

The real world eye test with me putting them side by side playing the same video or looking at the same picture or website??? I couldn't say definitively one is way better than the other.. Heck I couldn't even say one was just a tick or two better... Both phones are just so darn amazing.... that for me.. It just comes down to user experience... I had a Galaxy S3 and I was no fan of touchwiz or the physical home button.... but I couldn't mark the Note or Galaxy series down because of something that is personal preference....

Note 4 is the better choice if you are a S - pen user. Otherwise, Nexus 6 if you want to enjoy 9.8% more screen area and faster response time. But if you care about build quality, Nexus 6 hands down all the way.

Note 4 has arguably better display, camera, and battery life but these are so close in real world experience they don't really make a difference.

Yup as I've said before it's like the difference between first and second place in a Olympic 100 meter dash race.... Both are darn good.... Any comment that one is head and shoulders above the other is almost entirely agenda based bias one way or the other..

I'd never use the S pen and was never a fan of Touchwiz doesn't make either bad or better.... Just preference...

Source on that ?I'd love to read about that :) would be a good read

Supposedly anyone other than samsung who uses amoled screens get the "older screens" rather than the newest that samsung keeps solely for themselves.

The main problem I have with Nexus 6 is lack of storage... and also lack of S Pen.

I have the Note 4 also. If you truly believe the Nexus 6 is better, then you weren't a prolific user of the S Pen...that's fine, but there is no way the Nexus 6 is better than the Note 4.

You can also turn off certain Touchwiz features to get rid of lag on Note 4 (see Flossy Carter's Note 4 real world reviews).

But I'm sorry, the Nexus 6 has some serious flaws, that I just can't get past as a user of the Note 4.

Glad you like it better though.

I LOVE my Note 4 and it is better for me. BUT, you can't say there's "no way" the Nexus 6 is better, because for some it is. If they prefer smooth, vanilla Android and rapid updates and a 6" screen, then that alone will make the Nexus better. I personally prefer the Spen, better battery, better camera, and better screen with the beautiful chamfered metal edges of the Note 4 so I like it better for me.

I loved my Nexus 5 but I forgot about the simple things that made me love Samsung. Like picking up my device when I have a message or voice mail and it gives a subtle reminder vibration, also being able to access all volume sliders from any screen simply by hitting the volume key and touching the gear. Since I loved my Nexus 5 so much I just downloaded the Google Now launcher and I truly believe I have the best of both worlds having a Note running the GN Launcher.

All the above, but I leave the GPS turned on. I get 18 hours a day easily. While I lose signal sometimes most time I do not. when I do battery strength decrease more, but I still get 18 Hours no matter.

I am averaging about 17 hours with 3.5 screen on with everything left on (GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) on a super busy Saturday I get almost 12 with just @ 5 screen on.....

More than enough....... If I top charger wireless at home or work for about an hour when not in use I could easily go 24+..

Right. It's stupid and annoying when they suggest that.

Okay, just noticed a setting I had changed when I first got the phone. I had Data Roaming set to On. Because Sprint doesn't charge for roaming I figured why not have it on. Is this a large battery drain or just minor?

Robbie317, good idea about day charging. My real concern is when I'm out at night. If my battery is low at 5pm, I get concerned. If it's at 100% come late afternoon, I'm golden. I'll try that after my tests.

Roaming being on will use no extra battery.

Exactly. Either can be better, depending on the priorities of the user.

For me, the difference I perceived side by side was insubstantial compared to the extra screen real estate of the N6, the batter has proven sufficient for a heavy use day for me without any mid-day charging (which I tested just out of curiousity - access to a charger isn't a problem), I have no desire for S pen, and storage is ample for my needs. Camera on either is far better than the Nexus 5, but close enough to one another and still far enough behind any decent dedicated camera that I'd be delighted with either. One strength of the Note 4 I would like is the better multi-tasking, but when all is weighed, the balance of benefit, for me, is the Nexus 6.

I've been using both. And a 6+. The N6 does trail in the camera department. But when shooting HDR it closes the gap. But then its significantly slower. Trade offs I guess.

Pretty much. That won't end the bickering though. You'll get fans of competing phones come in, pick out something where the phone doesn't do well and hammer it. Or just make something up.

Every device forum has the same stuff.

You're right, it wont end the bickering. But we can at least appreciate when there are a few who can be level headed no matter what device they own. I have a Note 4 but i'd go to sleep thrilled whether there was a Note 4, Nexus 6, Moto X, LG G3, or HTC One M8 sitting there on my nightstand. All are great and it just comes down to what you need/want.

If you have the ability to top charge during the day I'd suggest doing that.... I leave work at 4 pm each day and in my worst day I left with 88% remaining and by 11 pm was still at 25% remaining when I went to bed with pretty heavy usage while not even attempting to top charge... Yesterday I knew I was going out with some people who were in town and even though I left work at 100% when I got home I set it down on the charger to keep it up until I left to meet them at 8 pm.... and by Midnight last night I was still at almost 90% when I got home (Granted very little use while out)
Went in last week to take a serious look at the Note 4. I spent 15 minutes or so holding the phone and playing with menus. I tried to find a solid reason to get the Note 4, but I just didn't like how it felt. It was too small, I didn't like the boxy squareness of the phone and the pointy feel of the aluminum frame. I still love the Note series and I will look seriously at the Note 5. However, it's the Nexus 6 for me!
