Switching from iPhone 4 to Sprint Photon?

Hi all,

This is the first time I have ever joined a forum. I have owned iPhones for years (3g, 3gs, 4) and have always loved the iPhone. However...I have seen the Photon and it seems incredible! I have been searching reviews, reading forums, etc. I am 99% sure I am going to buy the Photon. But I am really nervous.

I also have a Macbook, and if I synced my Photon, it would be on my Macbook.

Have any of you owned an iPhone and switched to the Photon? How is it compared? Has anyone tried syncing the Photon on a Macbook?

Thanks so much for any help or suggestions you might have. I really appreciate it.

You should really go to a Sprint store and play with one. It gets great battery life and has the best radios then any other phone out their. You can go to Sprint and sign up and take the 30 day tail offer. If you feel you don't like the photon you can take it back to Sprint within the 30 days and get your money back and cancel your contract without paying anything.

I have owned an iPhone and now own the Photon. They're both great OSes. I prefer android. A huge difference is the four buttons at the bottom of the Photon. The buttons stand for these features:
Most to the left = Options button. Any time you're in an app and you want to go into 'settings' or 'options' hit this button.
2nd from the left - Home button (like on the iPhone). Long press also shows you the most recently used apps
3rd from the left - Back button. On the iPhone normally there's a back button on the screen, but on android it's a button on the bottom. Backing out of an app also closes it.
4th from the left - Search button. On the iPhone you would flick all the way to the left to have search load up.
Another huge difference is the apps. A good app on the iPhone can also be found on Android, but it might have a different name.

As for iTunes.... It's much more integral for the iPhone. For the Photon It's a blend between the app, Motorola Media Link, which backs up your phone's data, and the web based android market.

You log into your Android Market account through the site and it'll send the Apps to your phone, without needing to plug the phone to your computer.
iTunes is great, but the need for the usb cable is annoying... I prefer the web based version of Android.

You shouldn't have a problem syncing your Photon to your Macbook. Even if you don't install Motorola's Media Link, your Mac should recognize the Photon's internal storage (and SD card, if you insert one) as it would any external drive, and you can treat it as such. Move pictures, non-DRM movies and music over, whatever. The great thing about Android is most of the basic features (like your contacts and list of installed apps) sync through the cloud. If you don't want to hook it up to your Mac, you don't have to.

I have not owned an iPhone, but I do have an iTouch so I am very familiar with iTunes and how Apple syncs things. There are certainly things you will miss if you leave your iPhone and iOS behind, but in my opinion what you gain from Android far outweighs the niceties of the "it just works" Apple mentality. But don't take my word for it. Take advantage of Sprint's 30 day return policy and try it for yourself. If you don't like it, return it with no cost to you or try a different phone.
