Switching from iPhone to Android

I switched from Iphone 4 to the Droid 2. I loved the Iphone, but at&t service was abysmal. It is like a whole new world when using VZW. No joke. Call quality, reliability, etc. The D2 does everything my Iphone 4 did and more. While I do miss the polish of the Iphone, I don't regret my switch.

With that said, I'd stay with an Iphone if I was still on at&t. Second choice would be getting an unlocked Desire Z.

I used AT&T for 3 1/2 years. Never had a coverage problem until this year.
As the year went on I just noticed my service being progressively worse. I
was pretty attached to my 3GS and iPhone 4 this year. I switched to Sprint
once to an Evo and didn't like it. Went back to iPhone 4. Switched again and
tried and Incredible and Droid 2 on VZW. Didn't like the phones. Once 4.2.1
dropped, I realized waiting for gimmicky updates was stupid. And I hated
trying to piecemeal things together on a jailbreak. I got a Droid X last week
and I am absolutely amazed with this phone and can't believe the places I
get service as opposed to what I wasn't getting with AT&T. Within five
hours of getting the phone I rooted and put a custom ROM on it. No way
I'm switching back.

Similar to forever29, I used AT&T and two generations of iphone for 3+ years. This past year coverage in SoCal gradually declined. I found myself using my work blackberry to make calls. My iPhone became a glorified iPod. I recently switched to verizon and a droid pro with no regrets.

Figure out which carrier has the best coverage in your area and get the best phone for the carrier.
