Brand new to Android.

My Wife and I have had every iPhone since the original, but when I actually played with the iP4 I just wasn't impressed. You could make the argument that I was an iPhone fanboy. I actually made many people buy one after demonstrating & showing off my iPhones over the years. I've always JB'n our iPhones and consider myself a tech tweaker. But a new adventure awaits...

My Dad recently got an EVO and after playing with it, I just had to have one. The screen size, color reproduction, application speed, 4G, etc. has made me a convert. I've never used an Android device before, but it looks polished enough for me to enjoy, plus my Wife is gonna love the customization (one reason why she has always demanded I JB her iPhones).

So now I'm making the switch, and my 2 White EVO's ordered from BB (one for me & one for the Wife) are on the UPS truck and should be delivered today. I even went so far as to cancel my AT&T contract & pay the EFT because the EVO is just so damn AMAZING!!!

I hope I have a great experience with the device & I will post back once I've had ample time to evaluate. Wish me LUCK!

I always demanded my iphone be jailbroken as well.... The IOS is now stale without jailbreaking it... I think they need to incorperate some of the communities ideas... I liked the Iphone but the evo is better IMHO...

Indeed good luck. The Android platform is ripe for customization, with many great people working towards that.

I did exactly what you did. Canceled the AT&T contract and paid the ETF, for the purpose of getting the Evo. Sprint even gave me $162 to trade in my iPhone. I do not regret it one bit. In fact, I'm disappointed that it took me this long to get to Android. You won't be disappointed.

Hey, you won't be disappointed.

The only problem is there is a bit less eye-candy, but HTC's Sense fixes that up.
And the Evo has 30 frames per second cap, so things won't be as smooth as they should. If you have seen the Incredible or Nexus 1 with the same processor, they scroll through apps fine. The Evo jidders a bit at the end because of the 30fps cap... with some touch input lag.

It's only noticeable when you come from an Iphone.

But once you get over that, the customization will make you cry for joy.
About like 5 different keyboards, live wallpapers, and a zillion other things that you'll like.
If there isn't a stock feature on Android there's always a chance it'll be in the market.
An example --widgets. Don't like the stock HTC/Android clocks? Get Analog Clock Collection...
Don't like going into settings to adjust volume? Get the AudioManager App from the Catalog...

Those are just a couple examples, but yeah.

Since you say you're a tweaker, you'll love the phones. If you were not, you may not love it as much coming from an iPhone for all those years.

Yeah, I actually can't wait to root the EVO. Jailbreaking has become a bit boring and stale for me, although it has allowed me to sell all my iPhones Unlocked on Craigslist for good money & funding the next upgrade.

Rooting looks much harder to do, as there are no tools like PwnageTool, Redsn0w, Spirit, etc.

So let me get it right, your leaving your carrier for a phone? A PHONE??? What's the problem, I really wanna know. Did atnt not live up to the hype they show them selves as? Why are you leaving for a phone. It's one thing if your contract has expired and wanna get on a diff carrier, or you have had problems with your carrier. But for a phone, I like the iPhone myself and have a 3g but I would never leave Sprint for atnt's network for a phone when I save a crap load of money on Sprint.

Some people (myself included) like to stay updated with technology. Why would you stay with a carrier and hate your phone? I switched from Verizon for this phone also paying the ETF.

The evo is more than just a phone. I left t-mobile for this baby and I'm so happy I did. Happily paid the etf. A few months was too long to wait for my contract to expire.
