I have a family plan right now through Verizon w/ 2 lines. My line is a regular 2 year contract and I am 13 months into it with a Galaxy S5. My phone is starting to act up plus I want to get on the Edge program. My plan was to add a line under edge with a galaxy s6 have the phone numbers switched from my current phone so I can keep my phone number ( I'm a firefighter and need to keep my number ) and then cancel my s5 and pay the cancellation fee which is around $200.

I know someone that did this but the gentleman at the Verizon store told me I couldn't. Can someone tell me how this can get done where I can keep my old number?

Thanks, FB

My verizon store would let me "early" edge as soon as the galaxy s6 came out. I had an iphone 5s for like a year on contract. They let me go ahead and upgrade. But I had to send my iphone back. That was fine with me cause it was a piece anyway. May be something that you want to look at

The guy told me I wasn't eligible until October for "early edge" but I wouldn't be interested anyways because come October by S5 wont be worth what it is now. Technically I could just cancel my line and pay the fees today so I dont see why I cant keep my number and do it.

Verizon makes this way more difficult than necessary, but the short answer is that you need to port out the number you want to keep and then port it back in.

I believe you can add a line and get a phone on edge. You can then cancel this line. Because you still have an account you will just make the edge payments.

At least this was what was explained to me when I canceled a line on edge.

I went through the steps online to add a line, they wanted to charge a $35 activation fee.
