Switching on wifi at home throttles entire home wifi network

I'm running 4.1.2 on my droid and recently discovered through a phone call with my internet provider that when my phone is on wifi at home, it restricts all other devices in the house from getting internet. I looked through the running apps on my phone and stopped a few that Verizon automatically turned on after the last update (cloud and sync). So I tried to turn the wifi on again after stopping these apps and the same problem occurred. What could be sucking up so much wifi on my smartphone that is preventing two laptops, an iPad and an iPhone from connecting to the home wifi? Any help is appreciated. This is extremely frustrating. I shouldn't have to be using up my data at home.
