Switching ROMs

How easy is it to switch to a new ROM? I'm running emuzombie purity x right now. Would I need to do a full wipe to change to a more recent build of IHO or what?

I would first try only wiping dalvik cache first and of course make a backup.

If you experience issues then I would go the full wipe route.
