Switching Sprint Towers?

I don't get the best reception at my house after switching to sprint for the EVO, and when they activated my phone, I was 45 minutes away from my house in a different city.

Is there a way to have my phone search for the closest tower?

I remember I could do this a few years ago when I was on Verizon or maybe it was AT&T, but maybe things have changed.

It should do this automatically.

No such thing, and the towers only have a range of a couple miles anyway.

Update PRL

Go to "Update Profile" in settings. That should help as the towers will find your phone and then "Update PRL"

maybe you don't have a Sprint cell site close to your house?
I have a friend that has the same problem. Her at&t phone works great at her house, but she has bad Sprint coverage...
all cell carriers have different coverage, and there may be some "holes"...
