Anyone switching to sprint to get the new EVO? I like having service so i'm sticking with my incredible and big red :)

Hunting for food? EVO is a great device depending on if you get good sprint service in your area. For me, I'm sticking with my Incredible until a device comes out for Verizon that totally wipes the common sense out of my phone. Kind of like the Incredible did with my Storm ;)

Ditto..........

I get both service really well (Sprint and Verizon, although Sprint's 4G is spotty here). Overall, I'm staying with Verizon just because I'm moving in the next month or two, and there isn't any Sprint coverage where I'm going. ;)

But yeah. I bought the Incredible on the EVO's launch day.

Sprint: Been there, done that. Lousy reception in large metro area, horrible customer service. INC does everything I need it to do. Guess I'm just lucky but no reception problems, no dropped calls since I got it 4/29, no random boots, 14-18 hour battery life with proper management. I'm good!

I have both phones right now (as well as an IPhone). Verizon blows Sprint away on 3G and even 4G even though I am in 4G coverage (1 bar though). However, in my tests so far today, the EVO has better call quality. Call quality is very important to me (the main reason why I have both Android devices, my iPhone drops calls!) but I want good data connection. The Inc. feels better, the EVO is almost too big and heavy. But the screen space on the EVO is very nice. Decisions. I just knew that I would like one more than the other but the carrier would be wrong!

I'm staying with the best i was going to try sprint but was turned off by the $10 for future 4g because san diego ca doesn't have it yet.

Yeah paying $10 in luxury tax on an already high data plan doesn't seem to attractive to me.

High data plan? Um, to get the same as their $69 Everything Data on VZW it costs about a hundred dollers VS their $69+10 VS

$59 for the comparable Nationwide plan (talk and text)
$30 for the data plan
$10 for VZ Nav (compare to Sprint Nav/Telenav)
and not being with Sprint I am not sure what else is included, but no it's not expensive at all in comparison... and no I am not talking myself into an EVO... I am not talking myself into an EVO... lol

What ^he^ said.

VZN Pre or INC?

I have a Palm Pre on Sprint, customer service is great, but unfortunately the reception in my area is poor. I used to have VZN, but got an iPhone at it's inauguration and suffered poor ATT reception also. So I am looking to get great reception (VZN) and am having trouble deciding between a VZN Pre and the INC. I NEED to be able to listen podcasts with a single ear BT headset. Your thoughts please.

The HTC EVO is nice. But 4G just isn't worth it right now. Most area's dont even have 4G so you would be paying the extra $10 for nothing. Plus 4G works on a higher bandwidth so it hard for it to penetrate buildings. And if it can reach buildings the signal will be so weak, the speed would probably be like 3G........ Stick with the HTC Incredible.

I pay $140 for two smart phone plans on Verizon.....so for me no it wouldn't be cheaper. Thank god for corporate partnership discounts and old grandfathered rates!

One thing to keep in mind also, looking at the monthly charge isn't everything. Sprint has a really bad network, it's spotty nationwide, and have you read some of the EVO threads about just getting their phone activated for christ sake? Eck horrible. Same reason I've never had an iPhone, the device is wonderful, or has it's own aspects of wonderful, but the network it's on is horrible.

And you bring up VZ Nav, why would you need that when you have Google turn by turn???? You're not making sense to me friend.

I'm guessing you are on a family plan as well, I am talking the individual plans so yes it is a little cheaper to go that route rather than two individual plans. For you it's not cheaper but for a lot of people it is.

I bring up VZNav because it is the comparable feature to Sprint Nav which is included free the Everything plans. I have used both and while Google Nav is nice, VZNav is a lot better.

I'm not defending Sprint's network (there is a reason I am not with them myself) merely talking cost. Locally here I get great service with 3 of the 4 top networks and the 4th will be here soon (TMo bought up a small local carrier) but I did my research and overall VZW is better.

Oh and please no one bring up the fact that Sprint roams on Verizon... that is VOICE ONLY, and pretty much worthless with a smart phone!

The activation issues has nothing to do with the network itself, that's their activation system. It does say a lot about the device though as this didn't happen (at least not to this degree) with the Pre last year.

I wish there was a support group for ex-BB users and those on the fence trying to beat the addiction. :p

I'm torturously waiting for the next gen Droid, every day I have to talk myself out of just going down and buying the Incredible like some crack fiend! I really like the size and design of the Droid. I would like a full size keyboard again. The keyboard on the Droid SUCKS! I only tried it for a day but the keys are really small and hard for a guy like me with large hands to type on. The SureType setup on my Storm 2 works really well for me.

Here are my concerns about switching. If someone can produce an answer to these please do so.

1. Outlook.. I HAVE TO have the ability to sync Tasks, Calendar, Notes, and Contacts. Directly and daily. I DO NOT want to risk my data on some cloud based system. i.e. I don?t really want to rely on Google sync. Laptop or PC to Mobile device via hardware cable. Another reason for this is I don?t always have a signal when I need to back up my data.

2. Browser we are currently using a pair of Storm 2's and the browser sucks. No flash, glitchy as hell, just crap. I tried the non-proprietary apps offered for blackberry devices and they suck too. I am just tired of it, my XV6700 was almost better.

3. Device radio strength. First and for most I need a phone that works. My Storm 2 has never dropped a call due to hardware issues. How are the new devices working? I will keep my storm 2 for international travel. The multiband radio was convenient as I never know from month to month where I might be.

4. It sounds as though android devices have email and mms/sms delivery issues. Is this something that can be worked around through settings? Apps? Or are these issues user errors?

5. I don?t want another touch screen that randomly does what it wants including calling people when it is in my pocket. My XV6700 and Treo were Terrible at this.

Well not sure if this is the right forum to ask these questions but you all seem to be in the right stage of the transition to answer them. Thanks

Hi Kidplunge,

1 - The Incredible has decent exchange support with it's stock app. Because of my corporate exchange security settings, I prefer to use Nitrodesk's Touchdown. It meets all of your requirements except for notes, which Nitrodesk is working on. And unbelievably, my Incredible receives email quicker than my BB Tour did or my officemate's Storm 2.

2 - The browser speed is not worth comparing. It would be like comparing a Chevy Aveo to a Corvette. Sure, they both browse - but the Android browser is so much faster you think you might be achieving cellphone browsing nirvana.

3. Reception in my office at work is crappy...no noticeable difference from my Tour or the Storm 2 a desk over.

4. I guess SMS and MMS mileage may vary. I have had absolutely no problems using the stock messager.

5. The screen on the Incredible is capacitive. There is no way to butt dial unless you go commando and there are holes in your pocket.

I'd recommend using VZWs 30 day return policy. If you don't like the phone, return it and go back to your Storm.

In my side by side tests my inc blew the evo away with data. I loaded 5 web pages before the evo loaded one. The call quality seemed really good on evo. but that phone is a bit large for my hands and seemed bulky getting it out of my pocket. The hd video didn't look good at all to me. I also think the amoled screen looks better to me so I returned it today. I couldn't believe how slow the Sprint 3g service is

I wouldn't go back to crappy Sprint service even if they had the Incredible and that's saying a lot, I love the Incredible
