As a lot of us figured out, swype does not work in the stock messaging app on the thunderbolt as intended. The auto spacing feature does not work after typing a word. Many people resorted to installing handscent or a 3rd party messaging app. There was a workaround posted before that allowed users to email themselves the apk file of swype for the evo and the auto spacing worked correctly, which was the method I chose. While it did and does continue to work, now swype 3.0 is out and still has the same auto spacing problem.

Now for the real question and the reason for this post, does anyone have the apk file for the evo for swype 3.0, and does it work on the thunderbolt as the older version did. It is honestly very disapointing that there is a working version out there and the people at swype cannot figure out why that one is working and this one is not. Its not the htc sence as some of you put it, because a version for another phone works. If anyone has found this version or knows how to attain it, please post. If you are looking for the version to the older working evo skype apk, here is the link to it.

New Version of Swype for HTC Evo | Market 4 Android

thanks in adavance

Been using beta for 3.0 since it came out a few weeks ago and I have no issues with it auto-correction or auto-spacing you should do a proper uninstall and reinstall the device if you are having issues.

i have uninstalled, and reinstalled, even restarted between each step, cleared data. Is yours rooted? usually that makes a difference. I cannot get autospacing to work with 3.0, making me really hate this phone htc.

I have never used swype. I got shapewriter on my EVO before they forced swype on me. I never have any problems with it. I have the apk for that if you want. It's not on the market anymore

Nope my phone is stock not rooted and that really sucks to hear you are having issues. You postive you have the newest version - 3.5.83.26516 and obtained this directly from Skype not a apk that could of been hacked and modified with?

Flagged as known issue by admins at Swype sorry it is affecting you friend :(

(Autospace Failing on SMS (HTC Sense Vodaphone-Verizon)
This is a known issue with several HTC Sense UI devices. Most of these devices include HTC devices from Vodaphone sold in Australia as well as the HTC Thunderbolt sold by Verizon in North America. Apparently the version of the Sense SMS application that comes installed in these devices does not properly flag its input field as being one from an SMS application, but rather as an input field of that of an address bar in a web browser. Because of this not only does Swype ignore auto spacing (like as if you were inputting a web address) but you'll also be missing the smiley key :-(

Our best advice is to download a free SMS app from the Android Market which has properly flagged its input field properly for an SMS application. Several forum members have found handcent to be an ideal choice, or if you use Google Voice for SMS the problem should be averted when using its native SMS application.

o well, decided to root today and install bamf gb 3.0 sense, and it works with that. took 4 hours but got it all setup now lol.
