Swype beta

I was on the first beta...and wasn't too thrilled when they pulled the plug. Got my email lastn night re this wave of beta. Cant really see many differences that would be obvious on the Evo. Mostly behind the scenes stuff and languages. But, I have to say I tried a couple of other options while Swype was gone and the one I've found to be the best is Ultra Keyboard. Board and toolbar layout is more intuitive and the board itself is clearly easier to navigate for anyone with reasonably sized fingers. The downside to it is that there is no "automatic" learning/adding of words to the custom library. When options pop up, "long press" the one you want and it'll add it, plus use it in the sentence at the time. The other negative vs Swype is that while the keys are larger and easier, that causes more real estate to be used and that's problematic at times for filling out forms in a vertical format.

Got my e-mail yesterday too. I had forgotten that I signed up months ago. So glad i did, i am loving it so far. i go back and forth between Swype and Vlingo depending on where I'm at. Love having options!!!

For back arrows and a slew of other functionality simply "swipe" from the info tips button to the SYM/ ABC button right next to it (both in the lower left) also for an alternative calculator type number layout "swipe" from the tips button to the "f" key. Hope this helps SWYPE RULES! PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY CAPS LOCK AWAY GOOGLE! j/k apparently it will be togglable in the new Chrome OS netbooks ;-)

Problems with Swpe

Has anyone else had to uninstall and re-install swype from their EVO? I started having problems where I could type individual characters, but wasn't able to swype words in. When I swyped it showed the traced line, yet it didn't register the characters on the screen.

Anyone else experience this?

Wasn't that the behavior of an older version of Swype once it's beta had expired? Are you certain you're using the latest beta? It's been so long that I'm not even sure if I'm on the right track here..

i get error that swype is configured for another device and will work with limited functionality- Someone over at swype forum said to put browser out of desktop mode- and that it wouldnt work on rooted-

desktop mode in or out of - has nothing to do with I believe and neither should rooted phone-

I uninstalled and redownloaded and same problem- i can type but I cant swype- ( i already know how to swype)--

"For anyone getting the “Configured for another device” error, please make sure that when you hit “Done” after Swype finishes installing, you wait for the “Enable Swype” window to appear.

DO NOT press the “back” button when you see the “Start Download” button again. The license file is being generated at the time, and exiting the installer will kill the license download."

but after installing- I went back to installer icon- and there was a new button to generate license-

It seems the instructions for doing this are also in beta

I am using it now and I'm not use to it yet. Its taking longer to type.

I wasn't used to it either n I'm fast on it u just have to get the hang of it like some body said, when u realize u don't have to b that accurate

Man I totally LOVE Swype... I had it on my Nexus One and I switch my Beta over to the EVO right away... It can be quirky like almost every time I try to swype "The" 99% of the time I get "Three" instead... Now if I am thinking right and take my sweet time (which defeats the purpose of Swype) I can get it... But most works after using it for almost a year now I can Swype pretty good with one hand and not even looking at my phone... Almost like typing on a keyboard where your not even looking at the keys your just typing.. Yeah I get a few "FAIL" auto words in there.... But using it long enough I know the words I have problems with and I manually type them..... Good is another one.. I always get GOD instead... even if I hold it on the O for a second and then on to the D it automatically gives me god... Every time...

The one thing I really wish they would do is have it auto capitalize names, cities, states, countries with out having to swype up or hit the up arrow to cap the word.... But that is mostly nit picking really...

This actually happens to me every time I power the phone off and swap out batteries.... If you switch to another keyboard and back to swype real quick it fixes the problem... Only once did I have to physically uninstall and reinstall and that was after it told me my beta didn't match the device I was using...

Im gonna tip all you off right now about not posting any swype apks, or explaining how to get the cracked versions. Its againsts the rules here, due to swype trying to crack down on pirated versions.

I'd also add, that if it were up to me, I would stuff that APK in all your stockings for Christmas, but Swype's business model doesn't allow me to do so So, thanks for cooperating and hopefully you guys can all get in on the beta.

You may have better luck drawing a teeny-tiny circle over the "o" key with your finger. I think Swype is setup to pick up a small motion over the same key for a double letter rather than just the time spent on the key.

BTW does anyone know the differences between Swype beta and swype preinstalled? I have Droid X and was thinking of removing my swype for the beta, but not sure if it is worth it. How big are the differences?
