Swype...Install

I use the latest Swype beta (not the older Evo version) and Handcent. Haven't noticed any problems. Autocap and auto space works fine with Handcent. Haven't tried it with the default texting app. It does have the mic button for speech-to-text.

I've been flipping back and forth between the BETA version and the EVO version... I'm now back on the EVO version because I'm tired of another little bug with the BETA version... after I reboot, even using Handcent the Swype keyboard stops working as a Swype keyboard until I switch back the default keyboard and then back to the Swype keyboard... what a big pain the rear!!!

I'm going to stick with the EVO version, until Swype can get a new BETA version that will work with the Thunderbolt... like the EVO version I'm using now!!! :p

True. That's a pain. I have been meaning to see if I could get Tasker to automatically make that switch at boot up time. What other differences have you noticed between the Evo and Beta versions? So far in this thread, I seen mentioned:

-With Beta, Swyping doesn't work after a reboot until you change input method to default and then back to Swype. Not a problem with Evo.

- With Evo, no speech-to-text functionality (mic button). It works in Beta.

- With Beta, no autocap or autospace with the default SMS app. Works fine with Handcent. With Evo, works fine with default SMS app and Handcent.

Any other differences?

Sounds right to me... those are the major issues that I've found with Swype right now.

I used the BETA Swype with the stock messaging app. For some reason I had to install Swype mulitiple times until it finally worked. After installed auto space did not work (autospace was on in settings). I unstalled it not long after. In my opinion, using the stock keyboard with stock messaging app is the way to go.

Ok, I got the EVO swype to work on my phone. Needed to download it to my laptop (thank god for free mobil hot spot right now) and email it from there. For some reason on my work comp it would download as a zip file, but worked fine on my own laptop. So anyhow. long story short. Its working flawlessly so far. Need a bit of time to see if I really like it or not. Thanks for everyones help with that!

Got it installed yesterday and I really like it. Thanks for the info. What a great way to type on you your phone without actually typing. It works perfectly! Thanks for great info.

Is it just me or is there no way to use the swype evo version with voice? The beta version had a little mic so you can do voice sms...the evo version doesn't have it.

This is annoying me too. My swype on my galaxy tab has a mic. Guess you need the
Bolt's buggy beta version for voice. Otherwise switch back and forth between htc keyboard and evo swype keyboard.
