Swype vs. Thumb Keyboard?

Hi. I am new to the forum. I am curious, do you like Swype Beta or Thumb Keyboard better? I learned how to swipe on a cell phone but now I am using a tablet so it was easy to transfer those skills. I am using the Google Nexus 7 tablet. I like the speed of swiping but I'm wondering if I could type faster with the thumb keyboard? I have never been much of a thumb-texter; before my Android phone I just hunt-and-pecked with my forefinger on the tiny phone keyboard, totally in awe at those who could text with such speed, even though I could amaze people with my own speed on a computer keyboard. I have found that I have been avoiding typing e-mails to my friends on my tablet because I don't like to type lengthy things on a tablet keyboard. So, what would you recommend for typing lengthy e-mails, if anything? I keep hearing about the Thumb Keyboard and wonder if I'm missing out on something or if I already have a good thing going with Swype Beta? Perhaps I shouldn't mess with perfection, or perhaps I just need to get out the old laptop more often.... Thanks!

III love thumbs..tried them all .... I use it in landscape and hold my HP touchpad landscape while typing with two hands .... I have large hands.... I kept coming back to thumbs for layout and ease. Love split keyboard

I'm another who prefers Thumb Keyboard on my tablet. Swiping on a phone works well since the keys are usually small, so you don't have to worry about hitting the exact key. On the tablet, the swiping distance is quite a bit further, plus it would mean holding the tablet in one hand while swiping with the other (that could get heavy feeling rather quickly). Having the split keyboard layout (Thumb Keyboard or SwiftKey Tablet) makes it easier to hold the tablet while typing at the same time.

I do like using FlexT9 in portrait mode on my tablet, though. It also has swiping capabilities (and text prediction). It is much easier to swipe in portrait mode with the shorter distance. It drove me crazy trying to swipe all the way across the screen in landscape, though.

I really prefer Thumb Keyboard on my Nexus 7. It's perfect for a larger screen. Stock is just fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I tried Thumb Keyboard, but didnt see much of a benefit on the smaller screen.

Swift key is still, IMO the best keyboard
