Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly when syncing with MS Exchange

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has run into this error before. My 6P had been syncing perfectly well (using the stock mail app) with my MS Exchange server at work but gave up on 30th December as far as Contacts is concerned. It still syncs my Hotmail and Gmail accounts and, on Exchange, happily syncs Email and Calendar but won't sync Contacts. The error message I get is "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" but as this happened 3 days ago, I doubt that'll happen! And needless to say, all of my contacts are on Exchange.....

All my contacts are on my phone for now but as soon as I start making changes to the phone/Outlook at work, it's going to get out of kilter. I've seen others mention this problem with Gmail and the solution seems to be to delete the account and add it back in. I am reluctant to do this to Exchange as I have made a number of changes to the contact photos etc on my phone which I'll lose - unless this is what's mucked it up in the first place?

Has anyone run into this and found a fix?

Cheers

Pete

Same issue here. Thought it was just me ... Have been meaning to call Google Support or Fi Project support about it but have not done so yet.
My contacts also did not transfer from Verizon to Fi Project (my new service). I came from Verizon and had been using a Nokia 928 Windows Phone. I wound up using an app called Phone Copier and Contacts Optimizer from MOBILedit to transfer my contacts from Windows Phone to my 6P via Bluetooth. Great app and a lifesaver. And so far am really happy with Fi Project. But this syncing issue is bothersome. Also curious for any known issues or solutions.

I should add that I am not on Microsoft Exchange. But the syncing problem is happening across ALL services that you can and should be able to sync from including Outlook, other email services like Yahoo, Gmail and also Linkedin.

Followup:
I seem to have also found a solution. I did spend some time on the phone with Google Customer Support. The tech was excellent. In the end it seems that deleting my gmail account and then adding it back is what helped to get contacts loaded and then syncing with my different email or social media accounts. And I then used the third party app called Phone Optimizer to transfer my previously un-synched contacts from my Nokia Windows Phone via Bluetooth. Then once I saw that all were there in my 6P Contacts app, I did an export to my google drive to back them all up.

Hi Christophe,

My problem is specifically related to MS Exchange Contacts. Gmail and Hotmail email sync perfectly with no problems. In fact, I've just noticed that if I leave Exhange contact sync on, I start getting problems with Exhange email and Calendar sync generating the same error message.

Interesting to know that others are experiencing problems too. Makes me wonder whether there's a bigger problem going on here.

Cheers

Found a solution. I deleted and recreated my MS Exchange account, let is re-sync and everything is all good now.

No idea what went wrong but at least I'm sorted now.

I'm getting same message and having problem. For me, the ONLY email in my exchange INBOX is email sent by me-to me (I know it sounds odd, but it happens.) So I only see about 6 emails from the last 1 month. I sent a test (from me to me) 1/4/16, and I got that. No other email will appear - so I'm missing about 50-100 emails. Oddly I can SEARCH for a name or something and find the "missing" emails!
Android 6.0.1,Nexus 5x with Sprint, GMAIL app using exchange (gmail is OK an un-affected). ALSO, exchange/gmail running on FIRE tablet has no email problems (same exchange acct).

That may fix it, but is not a good solution. I have several calendar apps with many options defined. Deleting the account removes the calendar and all settings. Adding it back means I have to go back to every app and widget and 'redefine' the "new" calendar with whatever settings it had. Not something I'd like to do frequently.

Also, my problem was with email, but the thread mentions contacts etc. I'm guessing the sync issue effects all these.
Still looking for a better solution...

hey all, one thing to try that fixes this similar issue on the 2014 moto x pure edition i had and one of my finance guys too was to login to your OWA email and go to settings - phone and remove your phone from the corporate activesync profile, next remove exchange from your phone and add it back. Deleting your outlook profile on the server is most likely not an option for large enterprise users. hope this helps others.

I am getting the same message, however touching the screen on a particular email address, I could see that some data was current or recently synced and other were not. Unchecking and rechecking brought the data up-to-date, however the message still appears (not sure if the data is really synced). If I delete gmail account and re-add it on my device, do I lose any data?

This fixed it for me; it may not for you, but worth a quick try. It's a a small variation from advice others have given re turning Sync on and off.

What I found, when looking at the Sync DETAILS where each app is checked or not-checked to SYNC with your Google account, is that a specific sync error was showing for "Sync Picasa Web albums" (last item on the list). I unchecked that box and tried syncing again. For me, that turned out to be the culprit.

This is the singlemost anoying trouble that I have with Galaxy 6. You can try all of the above- deleting re adding accounts, checking, unchecking sync settings, deleting cache, changing notification settings, and this will not stay fixed. The problem lies within the software "upgrade" and I hesitate to define it as an upgrade. I have spent hours of troubleshooting with techs and until Samsung un bugs the software, it will continue. The only choice is to roll back to factory settings, and make sure you uncheck' auto sytem upgrades.

I have the same problem, using Google Apps Contacts in the server to Contacts on the phone.
I cleared and reset the Google account on phone, and problem solved.... but now a few weeks later it has recurred.
