Sync While Roaming Greyed Out

I picked up my white EVO this weekend and today was its first day in the office. There's a few things that need tweaking and one of them is the ability to receive e-mails while roaming through my companies EAS account.

When I check under Home>Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync>Exchange ActiveSync>Account Settings I see that 'Sync when roaming" is greyed out with a check mark box and I cannot enable it. How do I go about enabling this?

I have data roaming enabled, data guard and data roaming sound off. "Enable always-on mobile data" is checked and roaming is set to auto.

Any suggestions?

Can anybody else try this on their EVO?

I can get my e-mails if I launch the mail app since i have "sync on open" enabled but I do not get push e-mails while roaming.

try this - do you have the Data Roaming on under settings>wireless networks>mobile networks>Data Roaming?

Maybe Data Roam Guard is on?

Have you tried rebooting? (Not a hard reset--just turn the phone off, wait a minutes, and turn it back on.) That has resolved some issues for me when there seemed to be a dependency between settings.

I have data roaming enabled and I'm able to browse the web and do manual sync just fine. I've even tried recreating the account. Roam guard is off. I've tried taking the battery out for 5-10 minutes. Still no luck.

Should I try going through Sprint or HTC next?

I've verified that the Exchange server isn't causing this option to be disabled.

Can someone else with a EAS account on their EVO check and see if they can toggle this setting? For what it's worth we're running Exchange 2007.

On a side note I tried changing to "Sprint Only" where I am which is way outside Sprint's coverage. the signal meter dropped to 0 but if I open a web browser or other data program the signal meter comes to full 3g (phone status confirms its on a Sprint 3g tower) and I can then receive push emails from EAS. Maybe Sprint is getting ready for 3g in my area which would be nice but I'd still like to be able to roam and sync.

I see there is a setting in Exchange 2007 that has to be checked to allow Syncing while Roaming.

It's the "Allow synchronization when roaming" option. With this setting you can allow or prohibit users from synchronizing their mobile devices when roaming.

I foudn this link... might help?
Preventing Exchange Activesync Direct Push when roaming - Exchange 2007 - Pro-Exchange

maybe this link, too?

I think the first link might have something to it, because with those settings configured, the user is experiencing the "greyed out" option (despite it being WinMo).

Yes, I can toggle the setting. I'm pretty sure we're on 2007 as well.

I had the exact same problem until about 15 minutes ago (it is nice being the exchange administrator ;) After some online research and testing I found that Microsoft VERY POORLY labeled the policy settings in exchange 2007. To allow your phone to sync when roaming you must UNCHECK the Allow synchronization when roaming box in your mobile policy. The box referrs to letting you manually set your roaming schedule. Unchecking it assumes auto sync all the time. Then refresh your policy and it should then be available on your phone... this has plagued me for weeks... DAMN MICROSOFT!!

This is 100% correct. The setting is very "special" off means on and on means off in Redmond I guess. Thanks to everyone for the help.
