syncing gmail contacts and calendar

Can this be done? I have got contacts birthdays and events checked in calendar, but only my birthday is shown.

make sure you go into the calendar settings and ensure all the calendars are shown.

Gmail, contacts and UK holidays are all checked. Weird.
