Syncing Music on Ubuntu

Just made the jump to Android this weekend from a dieing Blackberry and can't believe the difference! The ONE problem I have run into however, is my inability to sync, much less add any music to the SD card on my phone.

The first attempt I used Rhythmbox and was able to get 161 songs onto the phone. Subsequent attempts over the last 2 days with multiple programs (even booting into Windows to give it a go) and those same 161 songs are the only ones that stick to the card. Most of the time I can drag and drop with no problem, until I unplug, the phone tells me its "preparing SD card" and there is no change in music; the same 161 from the first move are still there, but nothing that I just transferred.

I am new to the scene and have NO idea where to go from here...I've been searching all day for a similar problem and haven't found one - everyone seems to have no trouble moving files around.

Install astro file manager on your phone.

Then open it and look around to see if you can find those new music files you added.

PS i use banshee to get music on my Tbolt and that works good.

I've since switched over to Banshee and still cant get the files to stick. Checked out ES and any file I drop from desktop into the Music folder (on the card) doesn't stick once the phone is unplugged...its like it resets to its pre-plugged in state. :-(

Tried that too...both ejecting on desktop and through the phone (switching to charge only)...

Just found out I have the same problem moving documents over...anything I create or drop on the SD card wipes as soon as I eject/unplug/unmount the phone.

with your computer off, connect your usb. when computer is booting up, select disk drive on your phone before you login to ubuntu. this should auto mount the drive when ubuntu starts.

navigate to drive>music and paste music there.

when its done, right click on your phone on the desktop and select eject.

then, on your phone, drag down the notification bar at the top, click disk drive, and change it to charge only. then the sd card icon should appear at the top and say preparing sd card. then go to the music app on your phone. the entire list has to be populated and will have the arrows on the top right updating your music list. (all your music won't be there right away, i freaked when it wasn't there but i let it take some time, and went back to the list and it was finally all there)

this is the exact method i used. hope it helps.

Finally figured out something that I think works...Im using ES to move files over wifi. Early moves seemed to stick, so I'll see if larger groups stay. Cumbersome, but it seems to work for me.

Any wisdom on how to manually mount the SD card? Eloverton, I tried your method of auto mounting, and its a no-go. The icon named HTC Android Phone shows up on Computer, but I cant do anything with it. It doesn't show up in either of the media programs I have tried: Banshee or Rhythmbox. I am just at a loss here.
