Syncing new mail

My Gmail isn't sending individual email notifications. Instead it's doing this "syncing new mail" thing that seems random. Is this something new, and how can I change it back.
 
Is this a Gmail account, or are you accessing some other email account (like Yahoo) using your Gmail app?
 
It's a Gmail account. I've tried clearing the app cache and force stop. I'll see if that helps. It started out of the blue sometime yesterday. I ordered something off Amazon and didn't get their email until that syncing came up later that day.
 
to get individual email notifications in gmail

-click on the 3 bars then settings
-in gmail settings click on your email address
-inbox notifications make sure both boxes are checked and sync all messages
-in manage labels make sure the same both both boxes are checked for each one you want and sync all messages for each period you want.

Thanks for sharing this info. In the "inbox notification" tab, the second box wasn't checked. However, it isn't checked on any of my devices and emails come through fine. I'm about 100% curtain that I turned off syncing myself through one of the annoying pop up notifications that pop up when you get new phones. Mine is working fine now. Like you said, maybe it can help someone tho.
