Syncing new mail

My Gmail isn't sending individual email notifications. Instead it's doing this "syncing new mail" thing that seems random. Is this something new, and how can I change it back.

Is this a Gmail account, or are you accessing some other email account (like Yahoo) using your Gmail app?

It's a Gmail account. I've tried clearing the app cache and force stop. I'll see if that helps. It started out of the blue sometime yesterday. I ordered something off Amazon and didn't get their email until that syncing came up later that day.

I think I may have figured it out. Somehow my Gmail syncing was off. It could have been when I set the phone up.

Yes, I have this problem on my Ultra. Not sure why, but I've given up on troubleshooting it.
