I keep a lot of pics, music videos and movies on my phone. I am away a lot with some down time and I like to have movies and music videos to watch. I do not always have a good wifi connection available so I keep them on my phone. The problem I have is that with a Galaxy they all get download to one file. I don't want my Gallery all mixed up with the different files. I stopped by the Galaxy booth at Best Buy to ask them. They suggested that I set different folders in the Gallery and separate them out. Which I did and the next time I did a sync I now have two copies of all the videos movies and pics. Does anyone else keep a lot of pics and videos on their phones or tablets and if so how do you keep them separated. Been thinking of going to the Iphone if for no other reason that I don't get so aggravated with everything all piled on top of each other in one file. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand your problem. What do you mean by 'piled up in one file'? I sync my pictures and videos all the time with Photos and I have one file per picture and video. I can delete files from my phone and still have them available on the online backup.

If you create a different folder then, to the system, your files, even if exactly the same with the same name, are now different because they're stored in a different folder.

But again, I still have each individual file on its own. I don't see how you can have multiple pictures on a single file (other than a compressed file, but that shouldn't matter to you if you can see the files individually).

Sorry I did not explain myself very well. Not one file but the folder called the Gallery. Every picture, video or music video and all movies are all kept in the one folder or lack of a better term app called the Gallery. I understand now that when the files are in a different folder, but that was what the Galaxy reps suggested I do. When I say all piled on top of each other I mean the one folder that has every picture, music video and all the movies all mixed together, they are still separate just all mixed up together. Hope that explains it better.

Well they are found in one app. Whether or not they are in one folder, they all show up under gallery. The camera just saves to the DCIM folder, which is where all videos you took goes to. But all other pictures should appear in their own folders/albums under gallery. For example, if I make a folder for videos in my phone, and a separare folder for an album of an event, I expect both folders to show up in gallery. That's expected behavior. Even my 8 year old Nokias handle that way, with videos also appearing in galleries under their own album. I honestly haven't seen a difference in how an iPhone handles this. It's the same. They all show under gallery as well. The difference perhaps iPhones come with a separate Videos app that shows only videos. Samsung also had that app downloadable from their Galaxy Store (I think it's also in Play Store), called Video Library. It's a similar app to gallery but only shows your videos.

As to syncing, what are you using to sync?

It has been several years since I have had a Iphone, but I seem to remember that my last one kept things separate. The pictures were in the Gallery App, the music videos and movies were in the Video App but were divided into two different folders labeled Music Videos and Movies. So if I was looking for a picture I did not have to look through several hundred videos to find it. All the pictures were in a different App from all the Music Videos and Movies. With my Samsung everything is in one App, the Gallery. If I divide all the pictures, movies and music videos into 3 different folders/albums inside the Gallery App the next time I sync the phone everything will be copied again to the Gallery App which is what I do not want but I understand why it happens now.

As far as syncing goes I am using Isync because the majority of all my music, videos and movies were bought through ITunes. I am really starting to regret using the Isync App. But that is another story for another day. :)

Ah! OK, you want to separate Images from Videos! Gotcha! Well, you can do that in a couple ways.
1) The File Manager (or My Documents) has a section where it lists all Images and Videos in a separate section for each.
2) On your Gallery app just tap the top left corner where right now it should say ALBUM; you'll see a drop down menu and select CATEGORIES. Voilá! Pictures, Videos, Panorama, Slo-Mo, etc. all on their own category.

ProTip: If you use the Google Photos app, while you can't separate the pictures from videos that easily, their search IS eerily powerful. You can search for 'golf' and all pictures related to it will show up, so that might make your search even easier if you know what you're looking for.

Wow I thought we had it. Atleast I finally got my point across on what the problem is that I am trying to fix. I tried what you suggested but with no luck. If I tap the 3 bars in the upper left corner the drop down menu gives two choices, the first "Sort by" you can choose either Time or Album, the second choice is "Filter", this gives a list of People, Scenery, Documents, Food, Pets or Vehicles. but no categories.

I am starting to feel really stupid here but I could not find the File Manager or anything labeled My Documents!
Thanks for the help though.

The File Manager in the S7 is the My Files app. I don't think it's possible to exactly duplicate what you want on the Samsung. The thing is, the default photo viewer app and video player are both embedded in thr gallery app, hence videos will also show on it because well, it's the video player. On My Files (You can also do this within the gallery app). You can arrange all your movies into a folder called movies, and all your music videos into a folder and label it music videos. They'll appear under gallery as folders labeled as such.

Thanks for the help. I think you are right. So I either get used to it or get a different phone. I guess I am just weird wanting things this way, seems that it doesn't bother other people. Thanks for helping though.

I think could get another gallery app that allows you to ignore folders. You can set that to ignore folders with videos, so the videos will only show up in the video library app. But that means an additional app, possibly with ads or you need to pay for it just to get what you want.

Simple, the answer is having the discipline of proper organization with your media files. Make sure your pictures are where ever they are, you can put them in other folders, whatever, or leave them be, etc. What you need to do is just make sure that all videos you create all get put in one folder. That way when you are viewing the Gallery (you should have the view set to Albums), you will only see 1 folder in there that has all your videos. That is it and the best you can do. I don't see anything wrong with having one folder show up in the gallery that has videos in it if you don't want your videos showing up all over the place. If you are overly picky about that, it doesn't matter what phone you get, unless you go iPhone, all Android phones will display the same way. Most of us see that as a benefit of Android, not a problem.

You can use the Gallery to move files around also. While you are in the Gallery viewing only one folder of items, Swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right and it should display a quick one-pane window list of all your media folders on the left. You should be able to select a number fo files from that folder and drag them into another folder. When you do that your phone will then ask you do you want to copy or move these folders. Click move.

My Note 5 created folders for Downloads, Video, Screenshots, Photo Editor, VZMedia and Snapseed.
My wife's S7 doesn't seem to create folders since the last update.

Maybe it's a carrier ROM issue, too? I have an S7 Edge from T-Mobile and I do get the Videos and Pictures category when filtering it in the Gallery. Granted, it's an Edge, but it shouldn't be different from an S7.
