Hello everyone, I have a UnRooted Desire HD running 2.3.3, and recently I got the "Low on Space" icon. Upon checking my apps and there size I only have 240ish MB of apps. So I deleted some apps and got 144MB of free space. Then over night my phone went from 144MB down to 8MB of free space (phone was on the charger and wasn't touched all night).

I did download an app called DiskUsage and it shows a very detailed view of whats taking up what space on either the SD or internal storage, and is showing me that my System Data is using 885MB of internal storage space. A friend has the same phone and he got the same app to compare and he only has 90MB of system data.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of problem before or know how i can go about fixing it ? I figure the worst case is I Hard Reset the phone and hope it doesn't come back, but I would like to know how to correct this issue if it was to happen again. If you need additional information just let me know I'll be glad to get it for you. Thanks in advanced.

Big time rogue app(s).

Would probably be hard to determine which one is causing it. Because even if you uninstall it, that data would still be in your system memory.

Hard reset is the only viable solution at this point. Afterwards, you'll just have to keep an eye on things after installing apps. Especially games.1 real game can take a huge amount of space.

Would it be possible to go into my file browser on the phone and figure out what is taking up the space? I did look into it yesterday and saw that in the folder /mnt/asec there is about 300+ MB of APK files that i do have installed on the phone. Not sure why they are there because most of them have been moved to the SD card. Also the folder /proc is 556MB, /system folder is 397MB. Those are the large folders, and not sure if they should be even near that size. I could go through all the folders and give you file sizes if needed to figure out what app is causing this so I don't get that app again.

your going to have to go into the files app of your phone, and make sure any apps that you deleted are totally deleted. what happens is, although you have deleted these apps, they leave a cache residue behind, so you have to manually clean them up.

I would give 1Tap Cleaner a try first (free app) to see what apps have a large cache, and use that as a starting point. Any other apps I can think of you need to be rooted.

I have had that app and it only shows 4MB in cache thats it. Is there another option to allow it to go further into the system files or no ? Also at this point im looking at just Hard Resting it, but i need to root it first so i can get Titanium back up to work to save some of my current stuff. Which is a fun process because its an HTC all in its self. Any ideas or known to work links would help. ATM im trying to use Advanced Ace Hack Kit and the gold card and such.

Hey guys,

I'm jumping in on this thread cause I am experiencing this phenomenon also with my brand new galaxy tab 10.1v. According to diskusage 'apps and media' only take a couple of hundreds of Mb, while 'system data' eats up a stellar 6Gb. I don't think it was that much coming out of the box and I've had it for just a couple of days now. Is it normal that the 'system data keeps growing like this, what makes it grow (cache??), can cache be limited or cleared in some way? I hope someone can clarify the matter a bit. Storage is limited so we want to use it as efficiently s possible :-)

Greets,

It is partly /sdcard/android/ (data and obb)

for those who still suffers from this problem just use the following simple way to get back ya phone to normal mode.
connect ya photo to pc via usb cable and turn on data transfer then move some of your files which u need to pc in a new folder and format your internal memory.Done :) This is applicable to all the devices and for samsung users easy way is dial *#9900# and its done :)
Happy Dataing:D

Pretty sure he said its not a game lol the phone itself is taking up the storage. I have the same problem with only 4 apps installed. 1 is a game.
