I'm somewhat shocked, but I actually received a September security update this morning. This brought it from May, which came with the Nougat update, to current. That's two updates in the past 3 months! Before that it was Oct 16 to May 17, which was received in June. If they could only fix the phone idle battery sucking problem... Thank you to whomever!!

At one level, a sincere "thank you" and "way to go". Always good to keep recent with the security patches.
At another, a tinge of disappointment that it isn't Oreo, or at least 7.11.

I haven't received a security update or anything else from AT&T since May...except a bill of course.

One item I've noticed is an improvement in Bluetooth audio quality. Before, it would stutter every once in a while, and since the update that seems to have gotten better. This is with an LG branded headset. Anyone else noticed?

I think thats just wishful thinking on your part :) I still notice some stutter.
But I think it did do something with Bluetooth, as this patch has broken the bluetooth link for Traxxas RC cars, and rendered their hardware useless now :(

If i would have known i would not have updated.
