T-Mobile Note 3: losing battery life after KitKat

I seem to see having some issues as well. Below is my battery performance with KitKat &

1. no notifications on except Kakao Talk (Korean social message app), Lookout, Twitter, Visual Voicemail,
2. background sync on (I know this drains power, but I like getting my emails by auto sync)
3. switching to wifi when wifi is available
4. brightness set to about 35% (no auto)
5. don't have SD card
6. don't use GPS often
7. voice control-incoming call on
8. Air view pen- speed dial preview & icon label on
9. air command on
10. motion- direct call on
11. location service off
12. using GSAM battery
13. I usually charge my phone when it gets to about 10-15%
14. screen timeout to 1 minute

As you can see, android system is draining a lot of power. And is there a non-root wakelock app I can use?
I wait for your expert opinions...

My Note 3 takes about 2.5% of battery during 8hrs of idle. This is after I upgraded it to Kitkat 4.4.2. I also installed easy battery saver app. I don't have skype installed. I do have gvoice and wechat. I turned off the features that I don't use such as voice activation etc. I'm still in the 14-day period, should I return it and get another Note 3 with Jelly Bean?

Hello, what do you mean by "8hrs of idle"

How do I upload a screen shot? I took a shot of the battery usage report and want to share and compare with you guys.

Hello, I am pretty new to android (previous iphone user), and don't have lot of experience or knowledge, but 2.5% use on 8 hours of not using sounds pretty good. Mine is like that as well.
What settings & apps are you running? How did you get 2.5%, GSAM?

I usually take the screen shot with SPen, email them to myself, uploaded unto this site using my laptop.

I really want to renews this discussion, but besides you, no one seems interested. I am sure many have this issue. Any suggestion?

By the way, I am looking into extended battery.

Would you know the answer for this?

Have a nice rest of the weekend..

I can't seem to find the upload file or attach image button. I'm using my note 3 to post.
I just switched from WP. Nokia makes pretty good Lumia phones, except for the battery. My Lumia 920 battery is 10 times worse than what ppl are experiencing with their note 3s. Also WP OS is horrible. They lack apps ecosystem and recently, stopped supporting Google voice app. Gvoice was my main texting vehicle and WP took that from me just to name a few. This is my first Android phone and I like it so far.
As for your question about air command, look up tips and tricks for note 3 on YouTube. There are tons of videos on this topic.

I turned off features that I don't use such as NFC, set brightness to auto, deleted Skype etc. I installed easy battery saver and gsam battery app. As for case, I got the hybrid rugged by minisuit. The buttons are very easy to access and the case is easy to install. Look it up.

I used to use battery saver, but I found it to be draining somewhat and just manually killing all opened apps by going to home button seems to do the same thing.
Less app the less draining, I believe.

Quick question im new to this site but i recently purchased a s view case off of ebay and overnight my note 3 battery was on 100% i woke up next morning and it was on 64, are you not aloud to use cases for samsung phones

The majority of ebay s-view cases are fake and some fakes as well as some 3rd party knock offs have been known to drain battery but not all do.

Some things to check. Make sure the cover was staying closed first of all. Then, and I realize you were probably asleep when this happened, but you should check whether the s-view screen is coming on by itself. This can happen even with the case closed fully with some fake cases. Also, and this one applies to genuine cases as well as any other, make sure you do not have the Quick Glance feature on under Air Gestures since this is activated by the sensor being covered, which it is anytime the s-view cover is closed.

After doing numerous updates on numerous Samsung phones, starting with Eclair..you need to ALWAYS do a complete reset and partition wipe after updating firmware.

Both of those are found in recovery mode boot. It clears off anything left hanging out there from the previous firmware or previous apps you have installed before and uninstalled later and anything that just isn't working right after an update, it almost always clears that up.

Now don't do the factory reset in setting, boot into recovery, wipe the partition cache, then do the reset in the menu of recovery mode. Always plan for a reset after every single firmware upgrade you do, especially when it is a large file and this one was.

I'll answer both of you in the one post..

You can also do a screenshot pressing home and power at the same time. To upload screenshots from your phone, I'll post a screenshot showing you how.

Tap the 3 buttons and then choose attach a picture. Choose "image" for "upload as".

Thank you..

Would you know how to activate the Air Command (S Pen), NOT by pressing on the knob on the pen?
I've seen people activate it by touching the screen.

I have only had N3 for about 2 weeks and have been so busy that I haven't been able to really look at the new features yet. I've got to find some place that has some info on the new features.

Ok..people..what a load of rubbish blaming apps for battery loss due to upgrade...same phone same apps before upgrade worked fine ...upgraded...now the phone works like shot...for very little time as battery dies so rapid...KITKAT is the problem...not the flipping apps...has made my HTC and Samsung tab 3 virtually useless...up yours android kitkat
