Who here is using their one on the T-Mobile prepaid plan? I know the one does not work to its full potential unless the area your in has been reformatted or whatever but I was curious who was using it this way if anyone. Also does anyone know how you can check if your area has been reformatted yet?

Thanks a bunch.

Call T-Mobile and ask about the prepaid service in your area and if 4G is available in your area. If you are referring to other prepaid services which work off T-Mobiles towers, such as Net10 or Straight Talk, then check with those companies and see what's available.

If you want to see a map of what is available. Go to the Sensorly website or if you have a smartphone already there is an app by the same name. Go to the coverage maps and punch in where you are located and where you would be using the phone.

You can see if t mobile has LTE towers near where you will be using the phone. Also you can see their 2 and 3g towers to. Hope it all works out for you.

Here is a user-reported map: Sightings of T-Mobile 3G/4G/HSPA+ coverage on 1900MHz (PCS/UMTS band II)

Keep in mind that it's user-reported, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm currently using the $30 plan with my unlocked One. HSPA+ is spotty in some areas, especially on the highways, but the signal is good in my immediate neighborhood. For $30/month, I can live with it, and things will only get better as time goes on.

Alternatively, you can also buy a T-mobile branded One with a postpaid plan, pay in full for the phone and immediately cancel the plan, and then buy a prepaid SIM card and use it with the $30 plan. It will cost a little more than the unlocked version (depending on how much tax is in your area), but that way you can be sure that you'll get HSPA+.

The term you want to search for is "refarmed". TMobile is working to aggressively move over this spectrum, at least in the larger markets, so unless you are in a rural area you are probably okay or will be by the end of the year. So if your area is not done yet, it might be a bit painful for awhile, but at their pace, probably not more then 6 months where between their refarming and LTE efforts things should be in better shape.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses, I'll be looking into it more when I am home and have access to a computer, I just wanted some ideas as to where to start looking.
