I don't have a warning or got an e-mail or anything, but the 2 years of free ID monitoring isn't bad, so I just signed up hehe. But yeah, this is bad. Especially since the breach is in Experian, and I'm sure a lot of other companies use them. Just today, I was setting up a new Internet service and I think I heard that name when they were running the credit check.

Yeah I will probably have my gf and I sign up for it -- I will take free monitoring for 2 years.

I don't have T-Mobile, but back in April or May, I took part in their Test Drive program. I don't remember what the process entailed, though, so I don't remember if I had to a credit check or anything that would've affected me in this. Should I be worried, or am I okay?

Hm not sure. You could be caught in it. If so Experian should contact you.

Disappointing but I think data breaches are part of the new reality. Class action lawsuit against Experian?

Highly doubtful.

I did sign up for the free credit monitoring though.

:/

How do they contact people? Via e-mail? I don't remember what info I gave them when signing up for that Test Drive thing. @_@

Experian should be able to contact you -- either by mail or by phone. It won't be T-Mobile doing it. By law Experian has to notify all users who could have had their information compromised.

Just out of curiosity, as I look to ease my own paranoia, if I'd have had to have a credit check done, would I have had to provide the info, such as SSN, to T-Mobile while filling out, or would they have researched the info on their end? I don't remember giving them stuff like SSN when I signed up for Test Drive. Usually, I make a mental note of stuff like that, and I generally avoid anything that asks for SSN, even if it's official.

I don't think you did it for the Test Drive -- You only gave your credit card or whichever. Credit Checks require your SSN which are usually used when signing up for service.

I did a credit check a while back with them, never signed up as I went with AT&T. I got the notice from Experian in the mail. My wife and I were looking at phone options and we each happened to have our credit ran (left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing) so both of us were potentially compromised. Fun times.
