I am a current sprint customer and I am intrigued by the new T-Mobile plans and pricing. I'm thinking about getting an iPhone 5 from them. Do they have LTE? And what speeds do you guys get in NYC?

LTE is not available yet in NYC. However, I find their 4G coverage pretty good in NYC.

Cant help you answer the coverage question. BUT i am in Dallas, TX. Was with Sprint for 11+ years. Been with TMO since mid January. I can say that my experience with TMO data network has been phenomenal compared to what i had with Sprint. Im getting speeds on TMOs HSPA+ network that is faster then any Sprint LTE i had before i left..
I get between 2-20 megs down anywhere i go. Most of the time its between 4-8 megs with peaks of 15 and up.
My recommendation is to grab a TMO device, activate an account, use your 14 day trial and test coverage and speeds. I did this and after 10 days i ported over.

Well I decided to take the plunge and get the Tmobile Iphone 5 and their 4G speed is amazing. So far I peaked at 15MBps down. It certainly beats the 0.04MBps I got from sprint.

Were in NYC do you live? and/or work? or hangout most?

Trying to get an idea of where in the city it works. Because as good as Verizon is, in mid town manhattan, its not good.

It's a shame what sprint let happen to their network in NYC. I jumped ship 8 months ago after 11 years with Sprint. Best thing I ever did, no regrets whatsoever.

I don't think they have 4G in NYC yet, they only have like 7 4G markets.

They don't have 4G but HSPA+ is sufficient

That isn't 4G, that's hspa+ aka faux G

There are multiple versions of 4G. It is indeed 4G, just not the fastest version. There is HPSA+21, HPSA+42 & LTE. (The main ones.)

HSPA+ is 3G, just a modified method available to GSM users only.

4G is LTE

I get pretty good speeds on a nexus 4 in NYC. About 17 down. I just got the phone and service the other week (when new plans came out) and came from a Verizon phone. To be honest, I always thought LTE was overrated as far as phones go, and 3g works fine for most situations.

Wow, I get 30 down 20 up on DC metro area on T-Mobile Note 2. With these screenshots of appears NYC is still on HSPA and testing LTE

Lol how are you guys getting these speeds? I picked up an HTC One on T-Mobile yesterday in NYC. It's probably going back this week. In my office in midtown at the window, the highest I got was 1.1mbps, when I even get a connection.

I was really hoping T-Mobile would be a valid alternative to AT&T but I still see lots of dead spots in Manhattan. I mean I've dropped down to Edge a few times already and right now my phone is sitting on GPRS!

I just picked up a N4 on t-mobile in NYC as well... yesterday was my 1st full day. In the morning the connection was blazing fast and at around 11am it became unusable. If this persists, i'm going to have to ditch t-mobile and go w/ at&t. I'll see how it is today, but yesterday was unbearable.
