T-Mobile updates us on its network improvements, including LTE

That's right, T-Mobile is going straight to LTE-Advanced, and the trials have already begun.

Moving 3G to 1900MHz and setting themselves up for (true) 4G sounds like a great plan.

I'm all for network improvements as long as they stay cheap. People rip on T-Mobile for having limited coverage, but then they complain about the bigger networks costing so much. Of course the budget option has drawbacks; that's how they stay on a budget. I'd rather have half the network speed and no service when I'm in rural areas than shell out 2-3 times as much money per month. That's what Verizon is for.

I went with T-Mobile because they were not going LTE at the time. I understand that it has its advantages but I dont want it cause it's a HUGE battery drain. The HSPA+ on my phone is every bit as fast as Verizon's LTE that everyone else in my family uses. They keep it turned off cause it sucks battery life like crazy. So unless they find a way to change that i'm not interested.

As a thunderbolt owner I can tell you that LTE, while it does drain battery, a big part of the problem is switching between 3g and 4g. Also alot of the phones software and underpowered batteries are to blame as well.

Agree with you 100%. What T-Mobile has now is better than LTE. They haven't reached the speed capacity of HSPA+ and have a lot of room to make it really fly. But, I think since everybody else is going with LTE and T-Mobile has a roaming agreement with AT&T they will be able to take advantage of AT&T's towers and are going LTE for that reason. Other than that it doesn't make sense.

Verizon's LTE is not even fully integrated - meaning only data is on 4G. Their voice is on the slower frequencies. And LTE phones run hot and burn up batteries. Everybody I know that has one is recharging before noon. I can go two days on my T-Mobile 4G phone before I have to charge it.

No one's LTE is fully integrated.
