Tab 2 7.0 and Google Music

I've paid for the streaming on Google music and love it. On my phone I have the option to set storage for the downloading of songs to my external micro SD card. How come there is no such option available for my tablet?

That option is only available for some devices, not universally. This support site says it requires at least KitKat, but experimental support for older Android versions is available for "some devices." https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1250232?hl=en

I've never rooted a device..
So that said, is there any workaround short of rooting or buying a new tablet?

Are you trying to download songs from your All Access subscription, or songs you purchased outright (or uploaded yourself)? If it's All Access, I don't think you'd be allowed to download the songs anywhere besides Internal Storage anyway, because they're hidden and inaccessible by any other app on Internal Storage (which is how they want it, since they want to prevent song sharing).
