I received a Tab 3 for Xmas and it is currently on 4.2.2 and it can't find any updates. I've tried many times to update and it never finds anything. Is there a trick or is something that is preventing it from finding the update??

Welcome to Android Central! Which exact model is it? You could try using either Samsung Kies or Samsung Smart Switch to update the firmware manually.

I have the Tab 3 SM-T110. I've seen other people mention things but I never know who to trust since this is all new to me. Anything you can do will help.

At the bottom of Setting, tap About Device, you should see the build number.
Current firmware is T110UEUANK2, Kitkat 4.2.2, just pay attention to the last 3 character, NK2
If nothing new when checking update, your tablet will tell your software is current.

From what I can find on the web, Samsung Kies should work for the Tab 3. This is a useful computer program that can check to make sure your tablet has the most up to date firmware (if the tablet's own system updater isn't working correctly for some reason): Kies | Samsung LATIN_EN. I think you should click on the Kies download, not the Kies3 download.

I looked again and it appears that I have a Tab3 Lite... And after looking on the net, Tab3 Lite won't be updating past 4.2.2 for a while. :/ That's really dumb.

Oh I see. It probably won't be updated at all, to be honest. "Lite" indicates it's not a flagship device, or even a midrange device, which makes them much lower priority for system updates.

1) It says on the box it came in

2) There are 2 differences between a Tab 3 and Tab 3 Lite. The Tab 3 is a forward facing camera and can have a 64GB microSD chip whereas the Tab 3 Lite has neither of those things. Really the only difference.
