Tab Pro 8.4 being Discontinued

Just got word from a Samsung sales associate that the tab pro is being discontinued. I started to notice it going out of stock everywhere and B&H marked it as discontinued so i figured i would ask Samsung. So disappointed.. I don't want to buy the ugly Tab S! Any thoughts on what to do? Are there any new 8 inch high res tablets coming soon?

I just got a Tab S and I don't find it ugly... I mean, it does look almost identical to the Note 10.1. But it's sad that a device that's not so old is going to be quickly discontinued. I guess it's because Sammy has so many products out there.

If you're not set on a Samsung device, the new Nexus is way overdue and should come out anytime now, according to rumors.

Personally i don't like the gold color, if it was a black device like the pro 8.4 i would be totally okay with it.

I thought the same thing, but the front is more of a gray shade than gold, and once you slap a book cover on it, the gold pinkish back cover goes away. Depending on the cover you get, however, does change the amount of gold trim visible from the sides.

I like the pros screen over the s series. More natural and real looking colors. The s screen looks like something out of a cartoon or something. Colors are just real cheesy looking.

Its amusing that Samsung put tablets with a name "Pro" and discontinues quickly. I prefer LCD over AMOLED displays on reading. Letters are much sharper and don't have little fuzzy hairs on letters due to sharing subpixels.

Either way, I got my Tab Pro 8.4 for what I intended to use. I do not like touchwiz and I don't expect many updates from Samsung on this device. Pixel density and the portability were my main key and this does not change the function of usage after discontinuing the device.

Just throwing my opinion out there and hopefully my comment made you think why you have this device and why you bought it.

If you like it, keep it. Just because Samsung has newer device doesn't mean you need to get it.

And most of all, just because it is discontinued doesn't mean the device will stop functioning.

I wasn't trying to attack on anyone but if any of you got offended, I apologize.

Not anymore. It has a dotted back like the S5 (which for some reason it's still being dubbed as faux-leather, but honestly, this is nothing like leather or like the older Notes were)

oh cool you like samsung i see you have a note 3 right? if so you should know about the fake leather thing unless your having a zerolemon/case

That's all fine and completely true, but the main problem here is it's time samung makes a tablet and sticks with it a little more and faithfully updates it in a timely manner. That's the scariest thing about buying a Samsung tablet for me anymore. They just seem to come out suddenly at a top dollar price point and then soon after just kind off slither away into the corner and no one pays antention or even cares anymore. That is the Main reason that to me it is just better off going with a nexus tablet.

I dont really like it too it just a "wrong" feeling to it kinda like a soap? it just wried i like my nexus 7 2012 i got a couple days ago for 120$ (used) though but still like its back much more

I got my Tablet in March/April and don't mind that it's being discontinued by Sept/Oct. It is what it is, companies have to drop older devices to make room for new ones. Mine is perfect for what I use it for and I don't see me upgrading for quite a while (at least 1.5-2 years).

Exactly! Who the hell would want to buy the latest high end tablet from samsung knowing it will just be replaced several months down the road with the next greatest tablet with the latest os. Meanwhile with the "old" tablet you'll be waiting months just the software upgrade as it will be all but completely forgotten about.

I have the pro 10.1. However I'm not bothered if it gets discontinued. It will get one update which is standard for Samsung Tablets, which probably won't arrive on my device until this time next year, also standard. However it doesn't stop it from being a great Tablet. It will still run my apps just fine even if it isn't the latest and greatest.

Samsung has stopped almost any public statement regarding the tab pro line, right after the S line got out.. big mistake to drop it entirely after 9 months. . Makes me feel uncomfortable too in case I need service or whatnot, it came with 2 years warranty, and apart from that , me and others I suppose dont need the s-pen and the extra dough always is the deciding factor. .
