Tab S 10.5 will not update software

I just purchased the samsung tab s 10.5 from a private party. I'm totally green when it comes to changing advanced configurations. When I got the tablet I did a factory reset so i could start fresh i thought starting to add aps and download content. I read its good to check for software updates 1st so that your operating system is current, so in an effort to do that i got this error message "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way." It said to "Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”

I did a Google search and assumed I must have inherited a rooted system, although I don't fully understand what that means, but I perceive from what I read that it unlocks the system for modification, I did as advised on one site to check if it is rooted with Root Checker app. I did and after it analyzed my system, it said it was rooted properly. This confirmed to me that it was rooted, assuming it's that simple. Then I followed a YouTube video that installed SuperSU for the purpose of doing a full unroot only. I did that and rebooted as suggested, then did the Root Checker analysis and it now said that the system was not rooted....can't remember the exact wording. Anyway, I figured my worries were over and decided to try and update my system software again only to get the same original message I typed above.

It seems that most tablet errors are fixable if you go to the right source and are aware of the real issues. I'm at a loss on the real issue, so a bit stuck on where to find help.

Is there a guide for dummies on this? I need help that is slow step by step. Anyone that generous out there?

Mod Note, I will move this to the tab s forum for more visibility

You have to go to Sammobile website find your firmware for your tab s model and flash it with odan, that's the only way it will completely remove root. Supersu unroot don't fully wipe root away from your system... But flashing a firmware with odan will fix your problem guarantee..

Sammobile does not seem to have a listing for US (United States) model. Mine is wifi only.
