Any Galaxy Note users thinking about getting a Tab S3 either as a Note replacement or to tide you over till the Note 8 gets released?

I've been reading a lot that the Tab S3 is like a giant Note phone. Is imagine that's even more true of the LTE version... And the SPen included in the box probably makes it even more true especially with all the SPen functionality of the Note 7. So, any Note 7 users planning on compensating with the S3 tablet? Anyone going to get the Tab to hold them over till the Note 8 comes out? Do u agree or disagree that the Tab is an overgrown Note phone? How do u feel about the Tab S3 as a productivity tool? Any other thoughts?

You cannot make a telephone call with 9.7" Galaxy TabS3. And if you could, you would look like a dork holding one against your head.

I believe u can, as there is a phone app on the home screen of the LTE version...

That wasn't really what I was getting at though, but I will agree with you, using the Tab S3 as a phone would indeed make you look like a dork... LOL!

I read about this for the S2. The phone function may be available in Europe or Asia, but is crippled in North America. But you need to hear from somebody with an S2 LTE to verify. I only have the wifi version.

As someone who has used 3 Samsung tablets as phones over the last 5 years, here's the deal. Every tablet Samsung made has come in a variant with telephony capability. Models sold in the US by carriers have the software and hardware (ie. ear speaker) removed. The international variants will work in the US on AT&T and T-Mobile networks, but lack the appropriate LTE radios, resulting in HSPA+ speeds. Obviously I haven't laid hands on the S3, but there are videos and pictures showing the dialer icon on the homescreen. There is no reason to believe Samsung has deviated from past history.

I got addicted to using a stylus in 2013, with my 2nd tablet phone, a Galaxy Note 8 (gt-n5100) and was disappointed when Samsung didn't release a successor. Eventually, I replaced it with the Tab A 8.0 (sm-p355) a lower spec tablet but still with a SPen. Unfortunately, I broke it a few months ago, so I've been anxiously waiting for Samsung to release a SPen tablet. I'm extremely disappointed that it's housing isn't incorporated into the body of the tablet. This creates an unnecessary inconvenience for dedicated stylus users. I'm also wondering what happened to the 8" version, as that size is ideal for portability, especially when used as a phone.

I have the Tab S2 lte variant and it works on TMobile and should work on AT&T. It doesn't have all the bands as I think it is missing band 12 but has 2 & 4, so in the Washington DC/Baltimore areas I get LTE 95% of the places I go to.

There doesn't seem to be an S3 variant this year and the one I have only comes as an 8" tablet. I use an active stylus but I definitely miss the spen due to not having palm rejection.

It is on Android 7.0 now but keep Bluetooth off as it is not BlueBourne resistant due to the infrequent updates. If you do decide to pick Tab S2 up the model number is SM-T715Y, it will come with a earpiece speaker and yes I can make calls with it.

The information on this site is a little off but you can see details and pics of it.

You can probably pick one of these up on ebay for $250-300.

I've used Verizon Messages+ to make WiFi calls from my Tab S2 while in Okinawa. I'm a Verizon customer though so...

You can carry it around but it's not a phone but with note 8 being 6.2 inches and with its battery problem. It depends on the user requirements I guess.

If you just need a virtual notepad than note 8 if you are a creative and productivity person than tab s3 if you are a windows user then the galaxy book 12. Then 10.6 version is just useless

I said the same thing with the S8 Plus that I'd probably stick with it and buy a Tab s3. I suckered in and bought the Note 8! Still have the s8 plus. I'm glad I got the note 8 however, it's very similar to the s8 plus minus spen but I like the 6gb ram and I have not used my Tab s2 much ever since I got the s8 Plus. The Note basically is a mini tablet almost that I can easily carry.
