Check the tablet forums. Check the Rooting section. It won't take long to figure it out. There are less tablets than phones.

I love my Galaxy tab 8.9, but the development is lacking. I really like the 8.9 form factor. It's the perfect size, and not too heavy. There are a few variants of the stock rom, as well as cm9, aokp, cm10, and cm10.1, that all work fairly well, but not a lot of development.

I'm sure there's tons of development for the nexus 7, and it's inexpensive, but it's too small for me.

They just officially announced the Galaxy Note 8" for later this year. How good are you at waiting?

Lol....

Probably out of my price range

I see nexus 7 at staples (16g) for 199 so that will probably be the route I take

I got a nexus 7 and have to say it is wicked sweet. Any nexus device will have good development and the latest updates straight from Google themselves. It is cheap ( no rear camera, no SD slot) but has nice build quality. It has a decent screen and super fast processor with good gaming capabilities. For 200 dollars you can't go wrong.

Get a first-gen Amazon Kindle Fire, should be easy to find one on the cheap, at this point, since the KF HD is the newer, shinier device. It has no camera, no microphone, but I'm running CM 10.1 (jelly bean) on it quite nicely.
