I am new to Android, I am just starting with a Droid X. Can someone please explain the pro and cons of task killers? I have read articles for and against it and I am confused. I am coming from Blackberry and I am so used to hitting menu then close and I kind of miss that. I feel like no programs are closing with the X and i really don't like it. Should i be using the task killer? Should I not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I cant help you but Im gonna add to the questions. So like everyone else, ive installed a ton of **** onto my phone and it started to get laggy and quirky. I downloaded a task killer to find a ton of **** open. Coming from a windows knowledge base, this is usually bad. knowing a little about apple OS, this isn't a problem because the OS doesn't close things and somehow doesn't use up memory and speed.

Is android like the apple OS? It appears so far to be closer to the windows where all that **** running slowed it down a bit.

I don't know anything about using an Android based phone, but what I can tell you is that when I played with the Droid X in the Verizon store, it had Advanced Task Killer Free installed on it. When I opened the menu for it and chose to "Kill All Selected Apps", it stopped all running applications on the phone and it took about 5-10 seconds for the phone to become operational again because it had to load all of the widgets and other default things back up.

I think if you were to do that once and then remember which applications auto-restart, and then not check them every time, you should be able to manage your tasks pretty efficiently. Instead of hitting Menu > Close like you do on the BlackBerry, you just have to go into your task manager.
