Task Manager/Killer Discussion

I miss it when using LauncherPro, but just add a shortcut to it on my home screen.

ok, so after reading everything, I did initially uninstall ATK. I installed it initially without really knowing much. Then last week, something was eating away at my battery and I rebooted to stop it. Nothing was in the stock task killer except for LPP.

I ended up installing ATK again just to see what apps were running in the background. I noticed apps were starting up without me ever starting them. For example, music player, video player, photobucket, vlingo, live scores and a couple of others that I don't even use the widgets for nor have I started up.

so my question is, what's so bad about killing these apps? should they be starting up on their own, and should android be managing the way they run? So I'm somewhat confused as to why ATK is so bad... I can kill of the apps that are running that I haven't started up and that aren't essential for system functions. in the article linked above it gives you a list of why things should be running and which apps can probably be killed off.

so... I see a lot of people saying ATK is bad, but not really saying why...

Anyone use Estrongs task manager? Ive been using it since day one and its pretty stable/useful ... Also free and comes with a useful widget
