Motorola's temporary fix for this is to toggle on/off airplane mode until their OTA update comes in November.
Using Tasker (one of the most useful android apps!), I just created an event for when data signal is lost and a task to toggle on airplane mode, wait 7 seconds, and then toggle off airplane mode.
Or if you are in a 4g area and somehow find yourself with 3g data only, then create an event for when connected to 3g, and a task to toggle on/off airplane mode to get back up to 4g.
So it just automatically does what Motorola says, so you don't ever have to find your phone without data. Of course, this doesn't help us if Verizon keeps having these "data outages"
But aside from this, do yourselves a favor and get Tasker. It just makes life so much easier -- that is of course unless we get that SmartActions app that the Razr is going to have.
