Tbolt for upgrade choice? Why root?

I can upgrade phone in 2 weeks was thinking the tbolt would be the good choice with verizon. Never had luck with samsungs so they are out of choice list. Any advice on choice? Also dont know why to root what are perks to rooting and what all is involved? Any advice/info or any help would be greatly appreciated.

If 720p screen and HDMI out via MHL are important to you, look into the Rezound. If they're not, you can go with the Thunderbolt. It has a ton of great ROMs.
